Daikaya Opens on Feb. 14
Daikaya has been leading us on with its opening date for more than a year now. We hope it won't break our hearts this Valentine's Day. That's when, at last, the ramen shop is slated to open.
The 40-seat ground floor, where Sapporo-style ramen will be served, will open at 5 p.m. on Feb. 14. The izakaya upstairs will open a month later.
So, what to expect? Chef Katsuya Fukushima will prepare four types of ramen: miso, shio (salt), soyu (soy), and vegan. Prices will range from $12 to $13.50 with sides for $5 each. The upstairs izakaya will eventually serve other Japanese snacks for $3 to $15. The restaurant will also offer sake, shochu, and Japanese-inspired cocktails ($9 to $12) as well as a wines and a wide selection of Japanese and craft domestic beers.
The downstairs space features an open kitchen and clean look with oak seating and ceiling, raked plaster walls, and teal and citron tiles around the stainless steel cooking line. Upstairs, you'll find Japanese tour bills from the owners' favorite bands as well as Japanese movie posters and old beer and whiskey ads. The wallpaper is made of food scenes from popular Japanese manga (comics).
The ramen shop will be walk-in only and the izakaya will take limited reservations.
