Ray’s Hell Burger Closes Amid Landlord Dispute

ARLnow reports that Ray's Hell Burger and Ray's Hell Burger Too have closed amid a dispute between restaurateur Michael Landrum and his landlord. "Landlord has changed the locks," says a sign on the door, according to ARLnow. A handwritten note reads, "Please visit us at Ray's to the Third while we take a quick break."

Landrum filed a lawsuit against the landlord, Colonial Village Shopping Center, in November. Citing the pending litigation, he declined to comment on the record to Y&H and ARLnow. "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated," he told Y&H.

Landrum, who hosted President Barack Obama and Russian president Dmitry Medvedev at Ray's Hell Burger in 2010, is determined not to let the closure derail his inauguration celebrations. Landrum posted on Don Rockwell to say that he will offer free "L'il Devils" cheeseburgers at Ray's to the Third—which is across Wilson Boulevard from the closed burger joints—on Jan. 20 and 21 with the request that diners make a $5 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Alexandria.

More details on the closure and landlord dispute as we have them.

    Finally will be able to park in the parking lot when we go to the Pho place! awesome for me, sucks for burger-lovers.

    I think this will be a temporary situation. If not, what a loss!

    Jessica, work the phones! We need answers! What in the world is going on here?

  • Jessica Sidman

    @Jeremy working on it!

  • yeahhh

    @Jeremy lol they dont have phones... Alexandria sounds like the place hes moving to if hes "donating" money to them

    Good, maybe now we will get a place that actually heats and butters their buns and cares about customer service. They won't even pack your food to go. And $13 for a mediocre burger with No sides is hardly a deal. Hopefully the Pho place will take that space too.

    Now If only that obvious tax writeoff, Asorti across the street would close.

    Never been there but the parking is definitely annoying there and out of principal I can't support a place that Nobama goes it really messes up traffic on Wilson Blvd when he visits. The steak joint is good and I admire the local business owner. I hope it works out for him and his staff.

    Buttered buns are gross.
