Lupo Verde Coming to 14th and T Streets NW

Lupo Verde is the name of the Italian restaurant coming to 1401 T Street NW from Antonio Matarazzo and business partner Med Lahlou, who also runs Tunnicliff's Tavern, Ulah Bistro, and Station 4.

The restaurant will focus around Matarazzo's native region of Irpinia in Campania, Italy, east of Naples. The name Irpinia means "wolf" in the local dialect and is a symbol of the green mountainous area. Lupo Verde means "green wolf" in Italian.

Matarazzo says the menu, which will consist mostly of small plates or piattini, will also highlight the region's specialties, which include honey, hazelnuts, truffles, mushrooms, and wild boar. Expect to also find cheese plates, house-made pastas, bruschetta, and pizzas from Lupo Verde's brick wood-fire oven. Matarazzo says they have secured a chef, who currently works in D.C., but they're not revealing the name yet.

The drink menu will include wines  from the Campania region and Virginia as well as beer and cocktails.

The first floor of the space will be a lounge and bar, and the main dining room and a smaller bar will occupy the second floor. The design will consist mostly of wood and brick with some ceramic tiles imported from Italy. "Nothing fancy," Matarazzo says. "Elegant, but still rustic."

Construction is set to begin next week, and Matarazzo anticipates the restaurant will open by mid-April.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated that Med Lahlou also owns Stoney's and Bullfeathers. He is no longer involved in those restaurants.

I think you meant to say "Lupo means wolf" not Irpinia.

Just what Logan Circle/14th Street needs-another small plates restaurant!

Any word on the fate of the mural on the building?

I am so excited. Antonio has done a great job at his other restaurants, and I know this one will be just as amazing. What is even better is that it will finally be an Italian restaurant from an authentic Italian. I have visited southern Italy several times, and their cuisine is the best. I am really looking forward to this.
