Cookbook Forewarns of PS7’s Closure

Could the rumors of PS7's shutter be true after all? A just-released cookbook called Washington, DC Chef's Table lists the restaurant as "closed but not forgotten" alongside a recipe for chef and owner Peter Smith's pull-apart pork sticky buns.

Author Beth Kanter tells Y&H:  "A rep for Peter called me shortly before we went to press to say that the restaurant would be closing.  I was told it would have been announced by now. Cue the mystery music..."

Reached by phone this morning, Smith declined to speak on the record.

Dining Bisnow first reported the rumor last week, which was then picked up by Eater. Smith told Eater at that time that "there's nothing to talk about… I don't know how Bisnow would have any knowledge of the inner workings of the restaurant." Bisnow subsequently deleted its post, leaving the status of the restaurant a mystery.

Too bad--it was a good place to eat at in Chinatown.

I had a nice dinner there a couple years ago, but a bad experience at the bar recently, where my party was ignored by the bartenders. Granted, the place got pretty busy, but there were several people working the bar, and other patrons were getting prompt service. We were seated at the bar, having arrived early, and watched as other parties standing around the bar were served while we waited and waited and waited to get anything (refills, bill, credit receipt). It was very frustrating.

One of the best restaurants in DC. I hope it does not close.
