Farmers Fishers Bakers Opens Today

Farmers Fishers Bakers made its debut in Washington Harbour today at 11:30 a.m. The waterfront spot is much more than a revamped version of Farmers & Fishers, which closed in April 2011 due to flooding. The 9,500 square-foot space is a whole new restaurant with a sushi bar, "dessert studio," and sleek decor that includes walls made of tractor tires and a big floating orange goat. Here are some things to look out for:

Sushi Bar

The reservation-only, eight-seat sushi bar is overseen by sushi chefs Thomas Park and Danny Tsay, who both previously worked at Uchiko and Uchi in Austin (whose executive chef won last season of Top Chef). The "farmhouse sushi" menu includes some untraditional combinations like tuna with compressed watermelon, blood oranges, caramel sauce, and strawberry sauce as well as white fish crudo with pickled shallots, okra, roasted tomatoes, and ponzu sauce.

Dessert "Studio"

An open bakery means you can watch the desserts as they're made. Among the sweets: devil's food chocolate cake with black pepper frosting and peppermint chip ice cream, a spiced apple crisp with Government cheese ice cream, and filled churros.

Tiki Drinks, Beer Cocktails, Sodas

Mixologist Jon Arroyo has created a Tiki-themed drink menu, including punch bowls for sharing, along with classic cocktails and beer cocktails (plus 24 craft beers on tap). If you'd rather have a liquor-free libation, the bar serves its own house-made sodas plus New York egg creams.

Larder

An open pantry will be stocked with seasonal ingredients and pickled produce, jams, jellies, sauces, and chutneys that are used in the restaurant.

Outdoor Patio

You can sit outside year-round thanks to fire pits and heaters on the Potomac-side patio. It also looks out on the ice skating rink, which opens Nov. 15.
