Carnival-Themed Pop-Up From Former Quench Chef Coming Soon
Former Quench chef Rich Gunter and mixologist Steve Oshana are reuniting for a multicourse pop-up dinner on Nov. 18— several months after both parted ways with the Rockville restaurant they helped open.
For those who haven't been keeping tabs, Gunter is currently helping to run operation:eatery, a "culinary think tank" that works with businesses and individuals on food projects in the D.C. area. He's also a consulting chef for Martha's Table. Oshana, who also previously worked at Elisir, is now behind the bar at BLT Steak.
The carnival-themed pop-up will take place at H Street NE coffeehouse and bar Sova and include four courses plus drink pairings for $50. Look for dishes like bone marrow-glazed brioche pretzels, grilled octopus skewers, crispy trotters, and oyster fritters with sorrel aioli. Among Oshana's creations is a rum-based cocktail with black lime, cotton candy "essence," and mint foam. Check out the full menu and get tickets here.
The dinner is a promo event for EatsPlace, a new food and restaurant incubator coming to the Parkview/Petworth neighborhood. EatsPlace will provide commercial kitchen and market space for food entrepreneurs as well as a dining room for pop-ups. Founder Katy Chang, who also runs a small-batch kimchi company called Artisanal Soy, is currently trying to raise $25,000 through Kickstarter to help fund the space.
