Life After Top Chef Premieres Tonight

Going head to head with President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tonight? None other than Spike Mendelsohn. The owner of Good Stuff Eatery and We The Pizza is one of the stars of Bravo's new show, Life After Top Chef, which debuts tonight at 10 p.m.

The show follows four Top Chef alum, including Mendelsohn, All-Stars season winner Richard Blais, badass Philadelphian Jen Carroll, and uber-Italian/turtle lover Fabio Viviani, as they open new restaurants and stretch their 15 minutes of TV fame like it's mozzarella.

Mendelsohn's plot line seems to focus around tensions with his family. According to a press release:

Spike Mendelsohn competed on Top Chef to gain notoriety, and quickly became a household name. Being the baby of a food industry family, he was encouraged to associate his name with the family business to drive its success. While Spike wants to please his family, he also wants to succeed in opening a restaurant of his own. This carefree and brilliant chef struggles with his strong desire to venture on his own while avoiding ruffling feathers with the Mendelsohn clan.

We also can't help but wonder if any drama with Mendelsohn's ex-fiancee Alyssa Shelasky might come into play. The celebrity gossip reporter-turned-Grub Street editor wrote a memoir called Apron Anxiety detailing her love affair with Mendelsohn, to whom she refers only as "Chef." The book was released around the same time that Mendelsohn filmed Life After Top Chef.

BREAKING: Second Tier Chef Stars in Second Tier Reality Show.

I like Spike Mendelsohn, although I think he is not as strong a chef as the other competitors. I missed the first episode of “Life after Top Chef” because of my work schedule at DISH. I think this show is a nice transition before the upcoming “Top Chef: Seattle.” My Hopper recorded the premiere, and there is over 2,000 hours of DVR recording space; I’m going to record the rest of the season, and prepare for the new season of “Top Chef.”
