Board Game-Themed Bar Opens in Dupont Tomorrow

Apparently, the only thing that takes longer than playing a game of Monopoly to the bitter end is waiting for D.C. health inspectors to show up. After several delays for that reason, Board Room plans to finally open in Dupont tomorrow at 4 p.m.

The board game-themed bar will have 22 different board games—Mouse Trap, Sorry!, Yahtzee, Life, Clue, Boggle, Trivial Pursuit, and more—that guests can rent for $1 to $5. There are also arcade games, a pinball machine, and tournament nights in the works.

The bar has 21 beers on tap, game-themed cocktails, and "vintage snacks" like Cracker Jacks and Andy Capp's hot fries. Read more about what to expect from Board Room here.

Why would you rent these games when you can buy them on Amazon or at a thrift store for the same price (besides the obvious reason of being drunk, bored and have money to part with)?

This is the first I've ever heard of a bar charging for board games. I'm no connoisseur, but aren't they usually free?

Maybe I'll check out the draft selection and smuggle in an UNO deck...

I wouldn't mind if those were deposits - I think that's reasonably fair - but not getting your dollar back at the end of the night for avoiding spilling beer all over Sorry is very customer unfriendly considering there are multiple other bars in town that loan you the games for free.
