The White House finally released recipes for its honey ale and honey porter over the weekend. Now the big question is: Who will reproduce it for the masses?

DC Brau co-founder Brandon Skall says he would love to brew the beer, but he wants to get the official nod of approval from the White House first. He says he’s actually been trying to contact them for over a year about brewing it—with no response. He even tried to get Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans‘ office to help at one point when Evans’ staff planned a tour of the White House. Still no luck.

Chocolate City Beer is also considering reproducing the beer. “There’s been some discussion but no firm plans as of this moment,” says co-founder Ben Matz. “I wouldn’t say conclusively either way.”

3 Stars Brewing Company‘s Mike McGarvey says it’s unlikely that the Takoma brewery, the newest to the D.C. beer scene, would attempt to replicate the recipe. “We just started production on our beers,” McGarvey says. “And while I’m glad to see the sharing of the information, I think if I was looking to reproduce something or do our own version of something, I might look at something more historical around D.C.”

Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company founder Bill Butcher also says he will not attempt to brew the White House beers.
