Three New Lunch Spots

It's a good week to leave your brown bag lunch at home. Three new casual lunch options opened in D.C. this week.

Yesterday, the team behind Againn gastropub opened a cafe called Bean & Bite at 1152 15th St. NW. The shop serves house-made baked goods, sandwiches, salads, and premium roast coffee. (Not to mention desserts like carrot cake, almond bars, and blondie brownies.)

Today, Chicago-based healthy foods chain The Protein Bar opens in Penn Quarter, serving high-protein smoothies, raw juices, quinoa bowls, salads, and "bar-ritos." Founder Matt Matros lost 60 pounds eating the foods he now serves at the restaurant (and was named one of Chicago's most eligible bachelors last year).

And to top it off, Sweetgreen debuts a new location at City Vista today. It's the salad and fro-yo chain's 13th restaurant—with more potentially on the way.

UPDATE: And that's not all! Prince of Petworth brings word that Z-Burger is now open in Columbia Heights as is Mediterranean Salad & Grill at 15th and U Streets NW.

I was lucky to happen upon the new City Vista Sweetgreen today and got a free salad for being one of their first 50 customers! It was pretty good. Similar to Chop't, but the ingredients seemed like they might be better quality. The portion was a little smaller too, which I think is good, because Chop't is too much food for lunch.
