America Eats Tavern Closing July 4
You have less than three weeks left to taste José Andrés' take on American culinary history at America Eats Tavern in Penn Quarter: The "pop-up" restaurant will end its year-long run on July 4.
America Eats was initially supposed to close at the beginning of the year, but the restaurant announced in November that it would extend its operations for six more months.
In the meantime, Minibar—Andrés's six-seat restaurant within a restaurant—is not hosting any more seatings. Since the beginning of the month, Minibar chefs have been in Miami working on "research and development projects."
Minibar will resume reservations on Sept. 1, for service that will re-start on Oct. 1. As far as what form Minibar will take when it reopens, Think Food Group publicist Stephanie Salvador says it will "remain an intimate experience. Regarding the space, we have very exciting plans in the works but are not ready to announce than publicly."
The Washington Post reported last summer that Andrés planned to expand Minibar once America Eats Tavern closed. At the time, Think Food Group employees said it would occupy multiple levels with drinks on the first floor, full dinner on the second floor, and an after-meal drinks in "Jose's Library" on the third. We'll keep you posted with more details as we have them.
