Expect Actual Tavern Drinks At Shaw’s Tavern This Weekend (Maybe) [UPDATED]
"It was a journey, but we got it!" says a triumphant Siya Sadeghi. The new owner of D.C.'s notoriously dry watering hole, Shaw's Tavern, was reacting to the news that he had finally obtained his liquor license.
Sadeghi was away in Canada when Y&H reached him on his cell phone today. He says the restaurant has been doing OK in terms of business without the booze (serving breakfast and lunch only) but adds, "I'm hoping, after this, we'll do much better."
While the restaurant's long-awaited permit to pour booze has finally arrived, the actual hooch has not. An employee who answered the phone today indicated that the restaurant was busy placing orders with distributors in the hopes of serving more than mere iced tea by this coming weekend.
UPDATE (4/12, 1:48 p.m.): The restaurant just announced on its Facebook page that it will be open for dinner on Friday night, April 13, serving only beer and wine. Its new hours are as follows:
Monday – Thursday: Lunch 10am-3pm, Dinner 5pm-10pm
Friday- Lunch10am-3pm, Dinner 5pm-11am
Saturday- Brunch 9am- 3pm, Dinner 5pm-11pm
