James Beard Finalists Include Some of D.C.’s Finest

Fabio Trabocchi's Fiola, the recent recipient of three stars from WaPo critic Tom Sietsema and Y&H's vote for best bomboloni in town, is among the nominees for the esteemed James Beard Foundation's award for Best New Restaurant. The finalists for the upcoming foodie Oscars were announced today in Las Vegas.  D.C. chefs Johnny Monis (Komi), Peter Pastan (Obelisk) and Vikram Sunderam (Rasika), as well as Alexandria's Cathal Armstrong (Restaurant Eve), also earned a nod in the Best Chef Mid-Atlantic category. Y&H alum and Washingtonian critic Todd Kliman, meanwhile, is in the running for the foundation's M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award. Winners will be announced May 7. Congrats to all the local finalists!

The bomboloni are just OK. I have been spoiled by the bomboloni of a friend from Italy. I was impressed with a lot of their stuff, but not all of it. Seems really overhyped.
