National Airport: Where Five Guys Gets Four Stars

Burgeoning Virginia-based Five Guys is rarely Y&H's first choice for a burger. Consider the Dupont Circle location. There are so many other more tantalizing options nearby—Black & Orange, BGR: The Burger Joint, Shake Shack, to name a few—why even bother? But, there are a few insidious places on the planet that are so devoid of tasty alternatives that the red- and white-checkered design scheme of the area's preeminent fast-food chain beckons like a peanut-oil oasis in a desert of stale sticky buns and atrocious tacos. National Airport is one of these culinary backwaters. Which is why I couldn't agree more with the top-seeding of Eater DC's new list of "Where to Eat at Reagan National Airport." Five Guys, located near Gates 35-45, is ranked No. 1. Of the chain's some 900 locations (and counting), this is the only one that I'm ever particularly thrilled to see. Its arrival several years ago significantly elevated the US Airways terminal experience. I only wish they accepted Dividend Miles at the register.

If the gang out in Lorton wants to capitalize on this sort of newfound transportation hub-based acclaim, they ought to consider sticking their next area Five Guys location inside Union Station. That awful place could seriously use one, too.

And they're open for breakfast! WIN.

Maybe it's that the location by my apt is terrible, but I don't think BGR comes close to Five Guys.
