Bar Pilar Closing For Renovations
Alongside the temporary December shuttering of the popular Standard barbecue spot and beer garden, 14th Street imbibers will have to make do without another popular boite for a few months: Bar Pilar is closing down on Nov. 27 to allow for construction to begin on its long-planned second-floor expansion. “We’ve already started the [demolition] on the floor above,” owner Mike Benson tells WaPo nightlife scribe Fritz Hahn. “I was hoping it would only take two weeks, but obviously in D.C., the whole system of doing stuff, with inspections, [the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration] — it’s like Kafka. Everything gets held up.” Read more about Benson's expansion plans (complete with renderings) here.
