Eleanor Holmes Norton Is Living Off Food Stamps
D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has recently complained about how hard it is to find good escargot in D.C. Even harder? Paying for those fancy snails with food stamps. Norton is one of a dozen democrats in Congress now taking part in a food stamp challenge organized by religious groups in an effort to show lawmakers how it feels to live on a tight food budget. Participants are limited to spending $31.50 a week. That's $4.50 a day. "What I'm really learning is that it's impossible to buy nutritious food for $31.50 a week," she tells CNN's Eatocracy blog.
