“Come for the view, stay for the food!” That’s the long-standing slogan of Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place at Georgetown’s Washington Harbour.

On Monday, those “spectacular views” proved to be the restaurant’s undoing when rapidly rising flood waters consumed the riverside shopping and dining complex.

WRC-TV reports that Tony and Joe’s was “under more than 10 feet of water” earlier this morning and a fire department spokesman tells The Washington Post that the seafood spot sustained the most damage of any area business impacted by the flood.

An employee at nearby Gelateria Dolce Vita tells the Post, “We didn’t think it was going to be any trouble, but the water kept rising.” By 10 a.m., the gelato shop was full of floating barstools, according to the Post.

Another nearby eatery overcome by the flood, Farmers & Fishers, posted a statement about the fallout from the disaster on its web site:

Due to severe flooding in Washington Harbour, Farmers & Fishers is currently closed. The entire staff is safe and our team is working diligently to push back water and prepare the restaurant for full operation as quickly as possible. We appreciate your support and will keep you informed about re-opening via the Web site, Facebook and Twitter.

If you have pending reservations or a private event, you will be contacted directly by OpenTable or a representative from Farmers & Fishers.

Meanwhile, according to the Georgetown Patch, neighboring M Street lobster shack Tackle Box, apparently unscathed by the deluge, is “offering grilled or crispy fish on the house” for employees, business owners and residents of the waterlogged complex.
