Chew On This, Wasteful G-Men: A Real $16 Muffin at Founding Farmers

Remember the whole brouhaha about the Justice Department effectively shelling out $16 per muffin at a recent conference. Urban Daddy now points us to a place where you, too, can get a crumby confection with a price tag soaring  into the double digits. Founding Farmers is offering what it's calling the "24K Jumbo Pumpkin Muffin," a ginormous mound of  cranberries, raisins and pumpkin seed granola that's big enough for two. The off-menu, limited-quantity item is available during Sunday brunch service throughout October. The kicker: "And unlike the Justice Department’s hotels, they’ll even throw in the coffee—a two-person French press of Intelligentsia organic."

I hate to be that guy, but the $16 muffin "scandal" proved to be totally bogus. DoJ was actually paying $16 per person for the entire event. If you've ever seen an "itemized" bill for a hotel conference, you'd understand this. I say "itemized," because the bill isn't really itemized at all. The hotel will often attribute the entire cost of the event to a single item, because it's too difficult to break down the charge to everything that's provided. That $16 covered all of the services provided by the hotel for that event per person. Pretty economical if you ask me.

Thanks to the above commenter for being That Guy so I didn't have to. $16/person is pretty reasonable for a large buffet breakfast inclusive of tax and tip. This whole "scandal" is a cheap way to rile people up. When there are so many legit reasons to be angry about government spending this is just unnecessary.

Also, I'm not about to spend money at Founding Farmers.

I'm so excited to see that there are other people who have worked in event planning before and understand the real per person cost of an event!
I'm sure the tea bagger party would have the government doing a potluck conference instead. Oh, no wait, that sounds like socialism! 😛

+10000000000 to all three of you. $16 for a b'fast buffet and a snack mid-afternoon is pretty darn good.

    Founding Farmers is a crock.

WOW YOU IDIOTS ARE DUMB....IT WASN'T $16 PER PERSON......Justice Department auditors also criticized a $76-per-person lunch at a conference at a Hilton in San Francisco, featuring slow-cooked Berkshire pork carnitas, hearts-of-romaine salad — and coffee at $8.24 a cup....The DOJ spent $4200 on 250 muffins--that's about $16 a muffin....“Sixteen-dollar muffins and $600,000 for event planning services are what make Americans cynical about government and why they are demanding change,’’ said Sen. People are outraged, and rightly so.’’......Descriptions of cookies and brownies costing the government nearly $10 each and beef Wellington hors d’oeuvres at $7.32 per serving........
