This Week in Beer: Brasserie Beck & Againn Host New Belgium, Pizzeria Paradiso Holds AutumnFest, SweetWater and Great Lakes Take Over The Black Squirrel & More
There is plenty of organized beer fun to fill up your day planner this week. Read on for a run-through, or click on any event in the D.C. Beer Events Calendar above for more details.
On Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Brasserie Beck and Againn are co-hosting a draft party featuring beers and swag from New Belgium Brewing Company, which started shipping kegs from Colorado to D.C. last week. On the same night, ChurchKey is partnering with D.C. Central Kitchen to collect donations in their mobile food drive bus, which will be parked outside the restaurant from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Thursday, the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, which runs Birch & Barley/ChurchKey, Rustico, Columbia Firehouse and a host of other restaurants and businesses, is throwing a unique farm tour and beer dinner on the grounds of Historic Woodlawn, the home of non-profit Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture. Tickets are $220 and the event starts at 3 p.m.
On Saturday, The Black Squirrel and Toledo Lounge have invited Great Lakes Brewing Company to take over all their taps. Specialty releases like the Cleveland brewery's Big Black Smoke, a smoked porter, will be flowing all day during Adams Morgan's Crafty Bastards arts and crafts fair, as well as into the evening. Later that evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada brewing companies are throwing a food truck beer dinner at Das Bullpen Biergarten near Nationals Stadium. The menu will feature the east and west coast breweries' collaboration Life & Limb and dishes from local food-on-wheel specialists CapMac, Porcmobile, Stix, Hula Girl Truck, Eat Wonky and Doug the Food Dude.
Not to be missed this week, Pizzeria Paradiso has put autumn seasonal brews on all their drafts at the restaurant's three locations in Dupont Circle, Georgetown, and Old Town Alexandria. This year's "AutumnFest" goes through Friday, Sept. 30, so there are just three days left to sample from the selection of spiced pumpkin ales, fresh hop harvest ales and malty German fall beers like Oktoberfests and Märzens.
And finally, The Black Squirrel is featuring beers from SweetWater Brewing Company of Atlanta through Sunday (unless they run out before then). The squirrely crew secured a limited amount of the brewery's IPA, 420 Extra Pale Ale, and Blue Ale, and will be serving southern-style comfort food like buttermilk fried chicken and pancakes.
