This Week in Beer: Food Truck Beer Dinner, Evil Twin at ChurchKey, BBQ and Beer at the Kennedy Center & New Belgium Launches Galore
The big news this week is the official arrival of New Belgium Brewing Company beers to the D.C. area. Joints like The Black Squirrel have been known for "bootlegging" New Belgium crowd-pleasers into the District for some time, but now the Colorado brewery is legitimately distributed in D.C. For more details on where to find New Belgium beer, read on or click on any event in my D.C. Beer Events Calendar above.
Several bars and restaurants will be selling bottles (no kegs have been sent this way yet) starting this week, including ChurchKey, which will be pouring Fat Tire Amber Ale, Hoptober Ale, Trippel, Kick (a pumpkin and cranberry ale), Clutch (a sour ale), and Super Cru, a double malted and hopped version of Fat Tire with Asian Pears and Saison yeast, today starting at 4 p.m. Also tonight starting at 6 p.m., Rustico in Alexandria will be holding a Virginia release party. On Wednesday, R.F.D. will be featuring 22-ounce bottles of New Belgium beer on special for $7 from 3 p.m. to close.
LAGERHEADS PICK: On Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Das Bullpen Biergarten near Nationals Park, Dogfish Head Brewery and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company are hosting a beer dinner featuring dishes from seven D.C. food trucks. The menu includes CapMac, Porcmobile, Stix, Hula Girl, Doug the Food Dude, Eat Wonky, and Sweet Ladies Bakery goodies paired with Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada collaborations Life & Limb and Limb & Life, Dogfish Head Vintage Olde School Barleywine, Sierra Nevada Jack & Ken's Ale and more. Tickets are $75 and the event is a fundraiser for Living Classrooms, a organization that provides hands-on educational experiences for local students.
