First ‘Eat Local First’ Week Kicks Off With Locally Sourced Pig Roast at Local 16
Local locavores have a whole lot of local events featuring local foods to look forward to over the next several days. D.C.'s first "Eat Local First Week" kicks off on Sunday, July 10, with a pig roast—locally sourced, of course—at (where else?) Local 16, located at 1612 U St. NW. The Berkshire pork comes from High View Farm in Berryville, Va., and will be served with summer vegetables locally sourced from biodynamic Whipple Farms in Rixeyville, Va. The event lasts from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15. Tours of local edible gardens and foraging expeditions, as well as a farm-to-street party, are planned for later in the week.
