This Week: Tuppers Celebrate 20,000th Beer, Meridian Pint Debuts Own Brew & D.C. Gets A Whole Lotta Hopslam
This week was front-loaded with a ton of beery events on Monday and Tuesday. A few notes to whet your appetite below, but click around in our D.C. Beer Events Calendar for the pertinent details.
Monday was a holiday, and hopefully you had the good sense to contemplate the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a beer in hand (greases the old thinking gears a bit). If you missed the celebration honoring local beer enthusiasts Bob and Ellie Tuppers' 20,000th logged beer at RFD, you can still taste the brew they created to commemorate the momentous occasion. Tuppers' Indian Ink Black IPA, a collaboration ale brewed by the Tuppers and Mad Fox's Charlie Buettner and Bill Madden, went on tap at Mad Fox Brewpub in Falls Church today on draft and cask. RFD still has some as well.
If you (1) love beer and (2) happen to be sitting around wondering what to do with yourself tonight, my suggestion is to head over to Meridian Pint to taste the special brew beer director Sam Fitz created with Stephen Jones at Oliver Breweries in Baltimore. A "generously hopped dark ale," called The Revelator, will be available on dry hopped with Bramling Cross hops on draft, a version aged with Vanilla and Cacoa beans and one aged in American Oak on cask from 7:00pm until it runs out, or Sam and Steve think the masses have had enough.
Those hungry for Hopslam (of the Bell's Brewery ilk) will be pleased to know the hophead-friendly elixir has hit D.C. with full force. You can be first in line to drink from freshly tapped kegs at Rustico in Ballston on Tuesday and Rustico in Alexandria on Wednesday. ChurchKey and RFD may still be pouring Hopslam as well.
In other beer event news, Room 11 is featuring Anderson Valley Nettied Madge Black IPA on their guest tap this week, and The Pug is continuing with their second week of Olivers Pint Night this Thursday with a cask of Olivers Blonde Ale dry hopped with Bramling Cross hops. Also on Thursday, Cork and Fork is hosting a beer and cheese tasting featuring Great Lakes Brewing Company beers. And on Friday Bilbo Baggins in Alexandria is having a beer dinner featuring a selection of domestic and imported beers and tapas with Joe Gold of Victory Brewing Company and Ron Fischer of B. United International Inc. importing company. Finally, Saturday evening join the Washington Wine Academy for a beer cruise on the Potomac River with 36 different brews and a plethora of hors d'oeuvres. (More details are a click away in the calendar above.)
