Brickskeller Buyers Announce Their Plans: New Carpet, Bathrooms

And you were worried. WTOP reports that the buyers of The Brickskeller, who also own the Windsor Inn, Embassy Inn, and District Hotel, plan to renovate the bar but keep the beer-centric tradition. Just, you know, clean the bathrooms and tear up that mangy carpet.

The Brickskeller will close on Dec. 18, owner Diane Alexander said today, confirming the date previously reported. The property is scheduled to change hands on Dec. 23, re-opening as Rock Creek three days later, after Christmas. (Meanwhile, the staff at Rock Creek in Bethesda had not heard about the sale or known of any connection with the new bar.)

"We are not making it into a brand new, fancy, modern place. We are going to make it the place that it once was," owner Megan Merrifield says.

And what about that epic, sometimes-phantom menu? After the sale, the Alexanders will still own all the beer, and Diane Alexander would not comment on their plans for the inventory, so while it might look like the same old place reopening on Dec. 26, we can't say what you'll be drinking there.
