The Worst Pretzel at American Ballparks?

DSCN4936_opt

Y&H had just polished off a Ben's half-smoke with chili — a spicy bite that disappeared way too fast — and decided to chase it with a cleverly rolled Curly W pretzel from the vendor roaming our section at Nats Park.

Man, was that a mistake.

If there is a worst pretzel at an American ballpark, I have yet to try it. This designer piece of pretzel dough is sweetened, so sweetened in fact you could almost mistake it for chewy funnel cake. My appetite was such that I ate at least one ascender, maybe two. But after I couldn't wash the cotton-candy sweetness out of my mouth with several gulps of beer, I stopped and tossed that sucker under the seat.

Must have been the dessert pretzel.

Isn't this kind of a "shortest midget" contest? I don't know of too many ballpark pretzels that have made me eager to go back for another.

    Mike,

I'm not sure I hold my ballpark food to the same, eager-to-return standard as you. But I would like it to be good enough to finish the first time, particularly at those prices.

I agree with you about the pretzel Tim, but I was pleasantly surprised that the pretzel stand out in leftfield sells gluten free beer. I have been dragging my celiac wife to ballgames since 2005 and she had her first ballpark beer last week. It's Redbridge, made by AB, and it's absolutely almost good. Please spread the word - I don't want it to go away for lack of interest.

Wow, just saw this entry and totally agree. I couldn't believe how bad the pretzels were--especially given how much they push the "curly w" pretzel.

still, good food at Bens and I love the veggie nachos at hard times cafe.

I actually LOVE the curly W pretzels. I had one last year and can't wait to go back. The sweetness is great!

The pretzels do however support a good cause, Autism Awareness. Read more at:
