Learn to Can All Those Summer Tomatoes
If food wastage is a sin — or at least contributes to Third World poverty — then we owe it to ourselves to be better guardians (if that's the right word) of the products we buy and grow. How many fresh summer tomatoes, for instance, have you let rot away on the counter over the years? Enough to feed the residents of Campania for a month, I'd guess. So this year, instead of letting those fruits wither and die, think about canning them for the winter. Here's a two-part primer on how to can your tomatoes.

Thanks. I've been wondering what I can do when farmer's market season ends in Nov. Since I began exclusively buying groceries at my farmer's market (14&U), I'm not sure what to do after it closes in november (I guestimate I get 80% of my weekly groceries from saturday's market). It was an experiment in better eating, and I'm succeeding by avoiding grocery stores.
Any other tips or advice?

have a small potted bonsai tree at home. It is not doing well no matter what window I put it in. I'd like to bring it to work and keep it in my office, but there is no natural sunlight there, just flourescent lights. Someone else has houseplants in their office, and they do well in the flourescents, but I'm not sure if it's the same way for a bonsai.
