I'm really looking forward to going but have to admit that my phone call to inquire about reservations (no they don't take them) pissed me off a bit - I asked the guy if he could guesstimate (just a guess - not a sworn oath or testimony) how long the wait would be at 8pm for 2 on a Saturday night. His response was that he really had not clue, lots of people might show up or it could be light. In my jaded opinion, if he has worked there for more than a a month he could clearly tell me that "oh, at 8pm on a Saturday the wait is usually 2 hours so swing by early and make sure to give us your name!" The posters here obviously all know about the waiting game at GMs yet this guy couldn't event bring it upon himself to placate me with a guess. I don't need to be overloaded with niceities and have a red carpet rolled out but having the decency to give new diners a heads up would have been nice. At the end of the day we went to H Street Country Club and had a perfectly good time. Next time it's likely to be Sticky Rice. GMs will come because it sounds damn good but I do not look forward to what I expect will be a hefty dose of 'tude.

It should be no surprise that The Lagerheads love Granville Moore's. Their Belgian beer list doesn't pack the punch in size and rarities as Brasserie Beck and DeVino's do, but it holds its own in a fair fight. You don't get food at DeVino's, so it's not a fair comparison, but we find GM's to have a more intimate and low-key atmosphere than Brasserie Beck, and a few more affordable options on the menu. The only things keeping us from going there more often are the distance and the wait. Come on Trolley!

We've been fans of GM's (and Teddy's) since they opened up in our neighborhood, but I have to echo what Fencey said - the menu just keeps getting better as they refine dishes and add new ones. Beyond the mussels and fries, they do some great stuff with bison (including a brisket sandwich that is excellent), and they've recently added a "BLT" made with duck breast. Best bet? Go during the week, when the crowds are a bit more manageable.

I agree with Local H. GM's is one of the few places that when I am told that there is an hour or more waiting time - I just say "OK". It gives me yet another opportunity to hang out at the Pug two doors down. A great friendly bar that serves you cheese puff balls while you drink. How can you not love that?
The food is amazing at GM. Not only the moule and frites, but everything on their menu. It's well worth the wait.

The waits can be absurd, but you can have you name and cell phone added to the list and then go to one of the other fantastic watering holes within a block or 2 of GMs - when your name come up, they will call your cell and give you time to come over. Makes for a nice way to sample more than one of the cool bars on H street, knowing you're going to have a great meal.

I've been to Granville's several times since it opened and the food is excellent. The atmosphere/decor is cool and the beer selection is out of this world. I don't doubt that the waits are outrageous though; I recently saw 20 people waiting for the place to open at 5pm on a Tuesday.
