Young & Hungry Dining Guide by the Day: BGR: The Burger Joint
One by one, over the next several weeks, we’ll run through the 50 restaurants that made the cut on this year’s Young & Hungry Dining Guide. If you have visited the day’s featured restaurant, let us know what you think. If you’re planning to visit for the first time, tell us how your meal was when you return.
When you get tired of waiting in line for a Ray’s Hell Burger, head over to BGR: The Burger Joint in Bethesda. You can bite into what is the most consistent burger blend among the new generation of fast-casual patty peddlers. No matter what burger you desire, you can be sure you’re getting a taste of four different cuts of prime, dry-aged beef. Some of the other burger joint operators probably don’t even know what dry-aged beef is.
Addendum: BGR founder Mark Bucher told Y&H this week that he will be expanding to Dupont Circle this fall.

I just went to BGR yesterday for the first time and I was truly disappointed. It was around 2:30 and the restaurant was slow – probably about 5 patrons. I ordered their original burger, cooked medium, the yukon gold fries, and a chocolate shake (I like to go traditional the first time at a burger joint!). Overall, the entire experience was a let-down. The burger was cooked closer to medium-well than medium. That would have been fine if the burger was even juicy or flavorful. But it wasn’t. I would have sent it back but I was running short on time. My toppings were pretty skimpy for a $9 burger. My tomato was a single slice (literally the top slice) of an unripened tomato. The fries were cooked thoroughly, but tasted almost burnt. And the chocolate shake was more like chocolate milk made with A LOT of hershey’s chocolate syrup. I think Good Stuff Eatery is far superior. For that matter, I think most of my Five Guys meals have been significantly better than what I had at BGR. I don’t think I’ll be going back.

Did you say anything to anyone there while you were having this completely unpleasant experience?
Managers need to be made aware of problems when they occur – both so they can note them and address them with the employees responsible and so they can try to remedy the situation in some way (or at least offer an official apology).
Waiting and posting online about your experience the next day is helpful for the next person thinking about eating where you did…but it does nothing to help the establishment try to improve.

you know its so much simpler to go online a say a negative as opossed to a positive thing. Ive learned not to buy into the negative stuff especially when the person is such a pussy not to say anything to store management. umm my burger is cooked medium well, not medium GIVE ME A BREAK! thats totally subjective, umm also was it dine in or to go? if it was to go , yes your shake would melt in the heat ( science class 101), your burger would keep cooking in the wrapping, and fries get soggy in a to go bag ,you idiot! which makes me think they should simply stay home… as for anyone saying Good Stuff has anything superior …you should be banned from the dining establishment , and GET a clue!!!
