Montgomery Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse: We Hardly Knew Ye

Folks all around Y&H's little orbit today are reporting on the early demise of the Montgomery Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse, which opened just a couple of months ago in the Westfield shopping center in Wheaton. Our CP colleague and fave movie critic Tricia Olszewski posted the theater owners' rant over on City Desk. The Going Out Gurus actually got the owner on the phone, and my buddy Amit Saha posted this note of mourning on my Facebook page:

It's a shame — I liked the idea and we had a good time when we went there. I guess it's the AFI for us. At least they have good beer, and I can go across the street to Landrum's Emporium of Carnivorous Excess for real food. But still, a shame. Sometimes you just wanna go lowbrow with the latest Bond flick and plate of wings.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, I recently wrote about the phenomenon of "background eating," when you happily consume crappy, empty calories because your focus is elsewhere, perhaps on a band, a movie, or even an under-performing group of nine desperately hoping to land this off-season's prized fish.

In the meantime, we still have the Arlington Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse.
