Sery Kim is apparently an alumna of the U of Texas. I wonder where she could have eaten in Austin to give her this frame of reference. If Lauriol Plaza was in Travis County, there would be a mass protest against it for abusing the adjective "Mexican." It's not a bad place to drink .... Ah. Perhaps that explains the glowing review.

I haven't been to LPlaza in several years. I gave it enough chances to prove to me that it new Mexican or Tex-Mex food and I finally just gave up.

It is certainly not the most authentic or tasty mexican in the city. The wait for tables is ridiculious and service can be kinda slow when super busy.

Maybe the NBC writer has never been to any of the more authentic neighborhoods either. Lauriol is way too mainstream to be named best IMO.

One good thing- the salsa.

Wow, this is shocking because Lauriol Plaza is the absolute pits! Their restaurant is so huge that quality control goes out the window. Its a bad "tex-mex" food factory, straight from the Sysco truck to your plate. I consider myself a queso connoisseur in this town and Lauriol's is definitely the worst. Its like they added onions and water to one of those gallon cans of generic cheese wiz, barf! Everyone knows you don't go to Lauriol Plaza for the food, you go there to sit on their patio and people watch.

I don't care what the haters say, I absolutely love Lauriol. The food is consistently great and the atmopshere is fun. I know some people don't like it because it's not "authentic" and too "mainstream." But whatever... shorter waits for me
