Yes, and many Black Americans "hoped" that Clarence Thomas would remember his poor beginnings in Pin Point GA, and the scars of growing up as a young Black man in the segregated South. They hoped that once be became a "supreme" the real Clarence Thomas would emerge.

Sure, I thought back then, and pigs might fly.

What matters is not representation but a candidate with shared values, principles, and priorities. I knew that Clarence Thomas' values were antithetical to mine, and that was all that mattered. The same is true about Sarah Palin. She has clearly told us who she is, what is important to her, her values and her belief system.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them! To do otherwise is wishful thinking and supremely stupid.

Siskind's theory of Palin supporting other women leaders doesn't hold much water when Palin was one of the people voicing criticism of GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava in New York (criticism that eventually persuaded Scozzafava to drop out of the race).

Richard, I totally agree. I'd add that blaming Nancy Pelosi for Stupak is extremely simplistic.

I actually consider it a step backwards when a female politician who really sucks at her job is elected. And Sarah Palin, let's face it, really REALLY sucks at her job. There are five year olds with more comprehensive policy knowledge.

This sort of philosophy is what causes so much feminine backlash...people can see this and say "Look! You blindly vote for women! Sexism!" when in reality most feminists are just smarter than that...but nowhere near as vocal as the crazies.

Adding on to this, shouldn't Speaker Pelosi's overall record be considered? NARAL and Planned Parenthood give her a 100% voting record for the past decade.
