Web Site Attempts to Convince Gay Priests To Stop Being Hypocrites

Picture 41A new Web site hopes to use the oldest trick in the book to combat the Catholic Church's opposition to same-sex marriage: A good, old-fashioned forced outing!

At ChurchOuting.org, you're invited to scroll through a list of every Achbishop, Bishop, and Reverend in the Archdiocese of Washington, zero in on one you know is gay, and then submit your "detailed account of how you know the priest in question is being hypocritical through his silence." (Alternately, get at them via Twitter or Facebook).

ChurchOuting.Org is the brainchild of self-described "netroots organizing pioneer" Phil Attey. To Attey, publicly detailing your homosexual tryst with a priest is practically a charitable contribution: "Thank you for helping to liberate a closeted gay or romantically involved heterosexual priest from the oppressive anti-marriage equality agenda," the Web site reads. Wait a minute: Since when was a homosexual witchhunt meant to free people from their political agendas?

The intention of the Web site is not to bust gay priests out of the closet (and their jobs)—it's to coerce them into changing their official positions on gay marriage from inside the priesthood. ChurchOuting.org, then, will not technically involve any outings:

Disclaimer:  The goal of this site is not to force Catholic priests out of the closet against their will.  The goal of this campaign is to aggregate reports of the every gay priest in the Archdiocese, so that we can work with them, one on one, and help them stand up to the the church hierarchy's stand on this important issue.

So: Attey is going to approach priests he thinks are gay, and warn them that they better stop lobbying against gay people, seeing how gay they are . . . or . . . else? As Queerty notes, it sounds like it's not gonna work:

What's the fun in that? There is none! Sure, we get the noble mission: Find the gay priests and then engage in dialogue with them. But no single (gay) priest is going to convince the Archdiocese's leadership, including topper Don Wuerl—who is threatening to abandon the Church's social services program if marriage equality legislation passes—to give up on its anti-gay crusade just because a website has the name of an allegedly gay priest.

The hypocrisy of the Catholic Church will never cease to amaze me. Father Steve Jeselnick of the Diocese of Erie exually abused me almost 30 years ago. If you google his name you will find the articles. He has been living openly with his lover for over 20 years, but continues to preach the same anti-gay Catholic dogma. At the same time while he is in a relationship continues to aggressively prey on vulnerable men. I was recently contacted by a former seminarian whom Father Jeselnick aggressively pursued last year.

Gay Priests, Nuns, and any other member of the Clergy are not being "Hypocrites" merely for being themselves; as long as that does not involve predatory, pedophile and perverted actions against the innocent and vulnerable. The REAL Hypocrites are the Popes and Bishops who have shielded, protected and enabled this subculture of scum who sexually victimize children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Hess, you know it's not Mira, but it's the person who calls you Hess.

Listen -- go talk to the dude who holds the banners up on Mass Ave, up the hill. I saw you up there once, a long time ago, looking for the Finnish Embassy.

He'll tell you all kinds of stuff about various Catholic Church hypocrisies.

Wow, you fight dirty. But the best fights are not clean ones especially for equality. And sometimes angles have to fight.

You should learn the facts about the Church's stance on homosexuality. Children are not taught to "be ashamed of who they are and that they should lead loveless lives as social and religious abominations. "

They are taught there is a difference between the value of the human person, which is immense and equal amongst people, what their feelings are and the value of acting on those feelings.

It is obvious from nature that same sex attraction is disordered. That does not mean that the person suffering from those feelings are bad or evil, just as an alcoholic's desire to drink to much is disordered yet the person does and always will have value.

While the person, a being created by God, is always good (as well as all created things), the actions of that person are not always good and may not have worth.

The proper use of human sexuality has 2 purposes: unitive and procreative. While a homosexual union could be unitive it can never be procreative and therefore is a disordered used of a created thing (human sexuality), just as drinking too much is a disordered used of a created thing, alcohol.

The hatred on this website and other homosexual writings against the Catholic Church is obviously little more than an ad hominem logical fallacy. Please learn the proper teaching of the Catholic Church. For example the "abuse" scandal you bring up mostly involved homosexual priests and teenage boys and there was very little pedophilia involved. This origination of this problem came from the lax standards in seminary admissions the tolerance of priests who accepted the homosexual life style. One example of the harm that accepting the homosexual lifestyle can bring.

God bless you and I hope God moves your heart and you find peace.

The evil and lies in Fidel's post is exactly why people have such strong feelings against the Catholic Church. This kind of anti-gay rant just makes people want to lash out with outing campaigns and similar actions. The entire point of the post seems to be to hurt people and move them further away from Christianity.

while of course it would be nice if homosexual clergy supported marriage equality, this approach amounts to blackmail.
