Daily Palin: Urban Hunter Edition

* UNSURPRISINGLY: Sarah Palin supports regulations allowing "concealed weapons in national parks and wildlife refuges," reports the News-Miner. In a letter, Palin's office stated that "the possession and use of firearms are critical to urban and rural hunters in Alaska." Urban hunters? I think we have some of those in Washington, D.C., too!
* YOUR FRIDAY BUMMER: "Gov. Palin cuts funding for state veterans cemetery." Sen. Joe Thomas says "he was troubled to see funding still in place for warm storage buildings and other projects instead." What would you have her do, Joe—pry the warm storage buildings from the cold dead hands of Alaskan veterans?
* $18,000: Amount of back-taxes owned by Palin for per diems claimed while living in her own home: "Gov. Sarah Palin must pay back taxes on nearly $18,000 in expenses she charged the state for living in her home outside Anchorage instead of at the state capital, officials said Wednesday." Palin: Now just like the Dems!
* NOW: GIVING FREE FOOD TO OTHERS, TOO? "Governor Sarah Palin is heading to western Alaska tomorrow, to help deliver food to families in Marshall and Russian Mission. The trip is being organized by the faith-based nonprofit Samaritan’s Purse."
* POST-BRISTOL, Greta Van Susteren follows-up with another completely inane interview, this time with Bill Clinton. WJC and GVS talked "stimulus and Hillary's singing, and about Clinton's just-announced initiative to fight childhood obesity, which dovetails with his own experience as a chubby kid." Greta Van Susteren: I cannot watch but I cannot look away!
* PALIN HITS 1600 PENN! She'll be hosted at the White House for the first time since the administration change-over this Sunday for the 2009 Governor's Dinner.
* FIRST DUDE WINTER SPORTS CORNER: The Palins' tax returns reveal the financial deets on Todd Palin's snowmachine "business." According to ABC, "His snow machine racing business grossed $17,000 but home office expenses meant that he claimed a net loss of $10,000." Hey, Todd, I have a "business" I lose money on, too: Casual drinking.
RUINING YOUR PALIN SEX FANTASY: The First Dude. "But even if that unlikely scenario were to occur, it would very quickly be destroyed by the entrance of flannel-wearing, oil-drilling, dog-racing, salmon-fishing testosterone-pumping Northern Man that is Todd Palin. He’d throw his burly frame right through the door without even bothering to check if it’s locked and proceed to kick seven kinds of shit out of me, Alaska-style. So there’s really no good that can come from a night with Palin."

Obviously, urban hunters are those who live in urban areas, but hunt for their own food, like many in Alaska. Now, was that so hard to figure out? As for "back taxes" that isn't so hard to figure out either. Palin received that money in 2008, taxes for 2008 aren't due until April 15, 2009, so they aren't "back taxes." If you bothered to do some research, you would have found that out, and the fact that Palin herself requested that a ruling be made on this issue. As for the cuts in funding of the vets cemetery, it's part of a nearly $500 million state budget cut in response to the falling oil prices, she at least knows that you cannot spend your way out of a financial tight spot, unlike those in DC. Palin organized the trip to the villages, and invited Franklin Graham and Samaritans Purse to take part in a non-governmental response to the ongoing trouble of the villages, something that the villages have had problems with for decades, long before Palin became governor. Palin is not attending the governors conference, if you had done some research you would have found that out as well.
This seems to be just a way to attract attention to yourself, and not an effort to report actual facts.

Sweet, it worked!
2:03 pm
Sarah and Todd Palin deserve so much better than to be raked over the coals continually. Look around and smell the roses, people... she's the real deal, and Alaska should be very proud of her.
2:52 pm
Amanda, you are really as dumb as a mud fence.
As Greg said, urban hunters are just that.
Alaska, like every state has budget priorities. BUT, instead of going billions in debt to keep going, like almost every bankrupt state in the union, Governor Palin saved money when times we good, and has a multi-billion dollar surplus. That's what one is supposed to do.
How far did you have to reach for the cemetery deal?
Past that, do you even KNOW that Governor Palin recently fought the Obama administration that was gonna cut off retirement checks to Native Alaskans who fought in WWII? That's right, these brave men of the Alaska Defense Force, who fought the Japanese on Alaskan soil, for NO PAY, were being cut off by the feds. Palin went after them with a vengeance, and got them their money back!
Oh, and the "back taxes", nice try....It was Governor Palin herself who asked for the review, you dumb cow!
And she doesn't owe $18,000, that was the amount of the per diem she got. Good lord all of you liberals are stupid.
How about reporting the fact that Governor Palin TURNED DOWN a $25,000 a year raise this year? What about that you silly woman?
As far as Todd's racing business, it's legit. I spent 20 years as a semi-professional racer. Sometimes you make money, sometime you lose you tail.
Todd is the winningest snowmobile racer in the Iron Dog, a 2000 mile race. It pays well when you win, but not so much when you don't. But it's costs the same, either way.
And silly woman, he doesn't race DOGS, he races snowmobiles, or as they call them in Alaska, snow machines.
How can anybody believe a damned thing you say, when you are too stupid to even get THAT right!
I have an idea for you. You sound like a frustrated girl. How about you go find someone to hook up with and get over it!
2:57 pm
I guess you libs would not have anything to write about if you actually told the truth. Sad when people who comment know more than you. I would comment more but Gary said it all.
3:11 pm
it is scary to see so many dumb-stupid-mean people in this country. Who raised these people-what home did they come from? who is this "Amanda"? prob a guy trying to write as a woman--mentally deranged--personality disorder--go get some serious help.
3:13 pm
Gary and Greg, Thank you for stating the facts!
Palin 2012!
3:19 pm
Amanda needs to go read some educational material before she attempst to write.
3:24 pm
There is not one ounce of truth in what you have written Amanda. In fact, Governor Palin is one of the few politicians who have been and continue to make wise and prudent decisions for their constituents. I won't go ino detail because Gary has already done a fine job at that. Also, there are plenty of us who think Todd Palin has got to be one of the best guys and works hard to provide for his family. Sarah is certainly thankful for the way he steps up to help out with the family so that she can concentrate on governoring.
3:28 pm
SARAH PALIN IS SO COOL AND BEAUTIFUL--AND HONEST TOO---AND FROM THE NORTH A STAR IS HERE
3:34 pm
Dear Amanda, Not one piece in your article was factually correct...(Being an Alaskan,I know where-of I speak)...And Todd races 'snowmachines' NOT dogs...Dogs are those 4 legged-furry critters that you liberals are constantly confusing with wolves (Ashley Judd anyone?)...But,hey,don't let the truth get in way of slamming Palin right Amanda?..Good gosh! You either know you're lying or dumber than a bag of rocks
4:05 pm
This article is a refleection of the educational system in the U.S.
Not checking facts. Just using Governor Palin to be sensational, but offer no truth in this sloopy done you call reporting.
Governor Palin is demonstrationg what governing is. She is not doing rhetorical speeches designed to decieve the public and hide the true intentions.
A better use of timewould be to check on this new administation instead.
Governor Palin - America's Governor getting the job done.
4:15 pm
Amanda you continually amaze me the backwash that comes from your brain. Oh right you have no brain. Your journalistic imagination if you want to call it that are based on lies and confusion. Maybe you should concentrate on Obama and the mess he is causing our country. I don't know who gave your degree in journalism but I think their credentials should be checked.

Before she "attempst" to write? I do say- when I was editing the National Review, conservatives could at least spell and not unwittingly and unironically create cognitive dissonance.

utter ignorance on display in this post is mind boggling . mistakes galore, even about fact that can be checked with a simple google search.
it is people like this that elected obama . no wonder he is is failing under the spotlight like this person's falsehoods.
4:43 pm
OMG, This is not writting this is just stupidity at its best, Where did you learn to write, how do you get your FACT's? Stop lying and try something else? I just wonder if you even care what you write, guess not brain must be on stand-By, swoopppppppppppppppzzzzz,POP (show hitting Amanda on the head)

Wow, such vitriol, but there is one thing I do like about your article and that's the cartoon. The M-16 and the Galil AR are good .223 rifles, though Sarah can easily handle the far more powerful M-14 and FAL .308 rifles -- and even bolt actions up to .375 H&H Magnum. Sarah can own anything within 300 - 400 yards of her. She never misses by the way even with her near-sightedness. You might want to update that cartoon with the more modern M-4, but for an anti-gunner to pick a Galil AR -- I must say I'm quite impressed.
I'd like to see you take a 1,000 pound moose, field dress it and bring it home -- at 3 in the morning in *actual* temperatures down to -45F; or maybe you might try gill netting thousands of pounds of salmon -- with all your fingers broken -- the day after breaking them -- like Sarah has so she could earn some money.
Yes, Sarah supports the Second Amendment to our Constitution. You know -- the one that allows us to keep these beautiful rifles.
Let's talk about those taxes. It was SARAH who asked that her own per diems and car use be investigated, because she felt something was amiss and she wanted to be 100% sure she was doing the right thing. She could have easily let sleeping dogs lie or simply fobbed it off and obfuscated -- like the typical politician does.
Yes...Sarah is partaking in giving food to distressed communities. She is foregoing the NGA meeting, CPAC -- and 1600 Penn to do so. She is serving her people and putting her own personal ambition aside.
As for the First Dude's Snow Machine business -- who in the IRS died and left you in charge? Have they found something untoward in the Palins' return? No, of course not -- only in the tax court of your mind was something found. Seasonal businesses tend to lose money from time to time.
Bristol made adequately clear that teen pregnancy is not something to aspire to. She correctly stated that abstinence only is not realistic (though not stated by her -- relying on condoms alone doesn't exactly work either -- they do break -- the outcome is the same).
Teen pregnancy is the perfect seque to Sarah Palin-related sex fantasies -- it seems that when people have nothing substantive to say about Sarah, or want to do an ad hominem, they make a sexual reference to her. Maybe we should start doing that about Michelle Obama. Sounds like fun to me. How would you like them apples? All of a sudden, it's no funny anymore right?
Maybe it is that those who concoct these Sarah-related sex fantasies do so out of their own deeply rooted desires. Sarah is after all beautiful -- passionate, at her peak -- affectionate -- powerful -- and quite unattainable -- classic forbidden fruit.
Sorry, but Sarah's married and committed to her man and passionate about him -- maybe that's what's lacking in the lives of those who concoct these fantasies and post them on the Internet for the world to see. You want something you can't have and quite frankly are nowhere near worthy of having.
4:58 pm
Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to Alaska politics. Fact. She took on a corrupt administration and has led her state very well. She has proven skills and talents. She is experienced and that's why writers like you focus on the personal. You're just jealous that Sarah's talents have been recognized across the nation.
5:12 pm
This is the poorest excuse of news reporting that I have ever had the misfortune of reading. The research phase of your article is sorely lacking as what you write is so unfactual and inaccurate. Perhaps you should revisit Journalism 101 for a refresher course; better yet, why not start over again!!!!!
5:44 pm
Let Sarah do her job-go after some socialist who wants to drag the nation down. As for me, I'll be voting for Sarah in 2012 for president. Please, don't let her scare you-she's a nice person. She just happens to respect human life and being able to defend human life. Liberals need to find someone else to pick on.
6:10 pm
Amanda,Your man,Obama also favors allowing concealed weapons in National Parks and Wildlife Refuges...(Check it out.At least when I write something,I check my sources..You wouldn't know 'the truth' if it bit you in the butt)
PALIN2012
6:26 pm
C'mon now. Everything you said is just fine with me. Leave the Gov alone--just like you did before you were afraid she would beat the pants off of the Democrat candidate in 2012--whoever he or she may be.
6:59 pm
You liberals are so pathetic it's laughable!!! What's your beef? Your guy won! Aren't you proud? Look at how the stock market has "changed" since he was elected! Oh, that's right it went DOWN! Look at how his approval rating has "changed". Oh, that's right, it went DOWN! Look at how his wonderful picks for his cabinet from the elite and intellectual community has "changed" the confidence of the American people. Oh, that's right, it went DOWN! You are so desperate to deflect attention from your savior, you have to MAKE UP a pack of lies about Governor Palin....and you're so stupid, you think it will work! Good luck with that!
7:05 pm
IS SARAH CUTE OR WHAT--ALSO SMART,HONEST, AND FOR HUMAN RIGHTS...
7:31 pm
GO SARHA!!!!!!
Love ya
8:09 pm
OMG! HAhA. I can't believe ur stpidness. your like a tote moronic. LOL. Palin '12!
8:30 pm
Amanda, this is worst excuse for journalism I have seen all year. It is devoid of facts, it is devoid of meaning except for ridicule and it is void of entertainment. I guess you think like many other failing journalist wanna-bees that mentioning Governor Palin will get you exposure. Well, you are exposed all right and its not pretty.
By the way, Greta van susteren will eat you for lunch.
8:40 pm
Actually, I beg to differ with the comment that said if liberals told the truth, they would have nothing to write- Not true actually. Think about it. They could discuss all the liberal tax cheats in Obama's cabinet, Obama's sweet house deal from convict Rezko, all the kick backs Obama gave as a senator, all the pork in the "stimulus" bill, that the stimulus bill is actually a left wing socialist agenda never meant to stimulate the economy, the democrats involvement in Fanny/Freddie fiasco, Obama's plan to socialize America, what ACORN really stands for....We could go on and on. We could even talk about Obama's birth certificate. That would all be possible if liberals aknowledged the truth. Wouldn't it be grand!
_
9:40 pm
Amanda, what worked? That everyone has now exposed you to be dumb as an OX? And you claim to be a journalist? Sounds as if you're suffering from Venus envy. The entire article is devoid of FACTS.

As my grandmother used to say: Amanda,"You don't have the sense God gave a billy-goat"..A 5 minute 'Google' search can totally discredit EVERY 'snarky' statement made in your article. If you hate Sarah Palin, fine, just say so.But don't cover-up your journalistic inadequacies with easily discredited 'BS'.
PS:I'm driving up to Denali NATIONAL Park 2 hours north of here to do some snow-machining this week-end...Will have my Remington 870 along..GREAT shotgun..Accurate and dependable..
Watch that 'casual drinking' problem you've got,eh?
11:14 pm
Bully for you man! I prefer a Mossberg 500 myself.

I am just going to focus my comment on this per diem nonsense you wrote about. You obviously didn’t do your homework because your commentary is so full of errors it boggles the mind. It really makes me wonder if it is not intentional.
Allow me to educate you.
To begin with Governor Palin does not owe 18,000 in taxes.
Second, she never claimed per diem “for living in her home” in Wasilla. She only requested per diem for meals while working away from her official office in Juneau. Why was she requesting per diem for meals while working away from her official office? Answer: Because the Governor’s 90 year old mansion was under renovation and badly needed repair.
In December of 2008, The Anchorage Daily News reported the following:
"When the Palins moved in, there were all of a sudden lots of leaks and stuff because a real family was living there."
"The open house has been a tradition for 93 years, with two years off during World War II, said Erica Fagerstrom, the residence manager."
"She was happy the home was in shape for the thousands of guests. The mansion has undergone extensive plumbing renovations."
"This place was a construction zone three weeks ago," she said."
http://www.adn.com/626/story/617789.html
With the renovations going on at the mansion, the Governor could have legally requested per diem for lodging (hotel or an apartment) in Juneau or Anchorage as previous governors had done in the past. But she didn’t. Instead she opted to stay at her home in Wasilla saving the tax payers of Alaska thousands of dollars. She only asked for meal per diem and not for the more expensive lodging per diem. And she only claimed meal per diem for herself and not for her husband and children even though she was legally entitled to.
Photo’s of work at the mansion in October of 2007: http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/100207/loc_20071002005.shtml
"Workers are replacing the 95-year-old building's antiquated plumbing system and are generating lots of dust as they remove old pipes. The first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed in December. The second phase will be done next year."
Third, and the most important key element you left out of the story is this - it was Governor Palin herself who ordered the review of the tax policy. A fact reported by the Anchorage Daily News on February 17, 2009. http://www.adn.com/palin/story/693695.html
"At the Governor's request, we reviewed the situation to determine whether we were in full compliance with the pertinent Internal Revenue Service regulations," [state administration commissioner Annette] Kreitzer wrote. "As a result of this review, we determined that per diem needs to be treated as income, requiring a revision of W-2 forms for any affected employees."
Game over, you loose.
