Lilly Ledbetter Pays Us A Visit For Equal Pay

Lilly Ledbetter, the namesake of the equal pay legislation passed by the Senate yesterday, is en route to Washington D.C. to watch Barack Obama sign the bill into law tomorrow. The 70-year-old Ledbetter, who hails from Jacksonville, Alabama, will be accompanied in Washington by a daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. In 2007, Ledbetter watched the Supreme Court overturn the $4 million decision that compensated her for wages lost over 20 years of working at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where she was habitually paid less than her male co-workers. Now, she'll watch Washington make sure that other women won't meet the same fate, just because they didn't find out about their own discrimination until it was too late.
