When Uncle Earl Met RGIII

Admitted shadow campaign financier Jeff Thompson could be facing six months in prison, so it should be no surprise that he's out enjoying life while he can. But what a group he's found to pass the time with! Via Instagram, Thompson surfaced last night having dinner with the Washington Pigskins' Robert Griffin III and DeSean Jackson and, uh, rapper ("Lil") Bow Wow.

The star-studded crew met for dinner at Pennsylvania Avenue NW's La Perla. While Thompson is the only member of the dinner party who's masterminded a years-long election scheme, most of the Twitter chatter about the dinner seemed to be focused on fans' disappointment at RGIII for meeting with former Like Mike star Bow Wow.

LL asked the Pigskins how the political mastermind of D.C. met the football mastermind of Landover, Md., but the team didn't respond to a request for comment.

    Well, I will be damned! RG3 can't associate with people of his choice without THE approval from others? WTF!

    Similarly, Black folk can't celebrate a holiday which is of great importance to them in the NATION CAPITOL without being condemned and accused of "wasteful" spending.

    CM David Grosso can verbally attack a black leader like Al Sharpton without any noise being made. I wonder what would have happen, if it was the other way around.

    And, some blacks will have me to believe that "we" will be better served under white governance. Man, you folk have no freaking idea what white governance in this city would do to the black middle class.

    Just keep it up. These "folks" are going to show you what they really think about your "big" education and "few" dollars so many of you brags about.

  • FreeBlackReign

    @Tony: After enduring my Black folk's reign of this city I am through with the same old Negro shitty!
    We need to give Whites a good chance to govern DC,
    Cause you see Blacks been a bad dream in here to me!

  • DontSleeponDude

    @freeblackreign. You sound like either the grand dragon of the kkk in cognito, or stepin fetchin. The reality is the District needs qualified candidates, white or black, capable of governing. Candidates are so prone to claim that DC can be a top-flight world city. Well how can the city be top flight when the Dems are producing a field of lackluster candidates. The problem is not Black leadership, but rather the inability of those elected blacks to lead. This city is filled with smart, energetic, blacks and whites intelligent enough to govern.

  • gordon

    who gives a @#$% who Thompson is hanging out with. Sommer is trying to create news again.

  • Marvin E. Adams

    I realize the "City Paper" is what it name implies - a city paper! And Loose Lips, as for as I am concerned, puts tabloids to shame, with its "reporting." This is N-O-T news. President Kennedy was renown for hanging out with members of the mob. If we dug deep enough, I am quite sure we would discover that some of our esteem elected officials have ties to extreme groups, such as the KKK. That said, I must ask what is the purpose of this "story?"

    As for as thinking that O-N-L-Y African-Americans leaders can govern in Washington, P-L-E-A-S-E!, how disingenuous and insulting. Just take a look at the track record of said leadership over the course of the past few years. Where do I begin? - 1) Convictions and prison terms for corruption (and those are the ones who have been caught); 2) Censures; 3) Nepotism and cronyism rules the day; 4) Hiring incompetent and unqualified individuals at outrageous salaries, ad infinitum, ad hominem, ad naseum.

  • James

    @Marvin E. Adams - you make good points. I might add that ineffective knows no color; that is, white, black, brown, and purple elected "leaders" are all guilty of 1) Convictions and prison terms for corruption (and those are the ones who have been caught); 2) Censures; 3) Nepotism and cronyism rules the day; 4) Hiring incompetent and unqualified individuals at outrageous salaries, ad infinitum, ad hominem, ad naseum.

    For example, in your identified category (1) chief of staff for CM Graham, (2) CM Graham barely escaped, (3) just about every politician does business with someone in their network (e.g. young alums from your alma mater), (4) middle management in many bureaucracies fall into this grouo,

  • Typical DC BS

    Sorry, inviting "Reverend" Al Sharpton to a prayer breakfast AND paying his worthless scam operation $20,000 is absolutely ridiculous. He's NOTHING but a racial extortionist. And being allowed ANY RESPECT whatsoever is a complete farce. President Obama and AG Holder should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this loser access to ANY federal functions.

  • Stepped on toes

    Two guys who can't play and are at the end of their careers. Or are they?

  • tony

    @Marvin E. Adams,

    You made some interesting points to which I respond.

    --As for as thinking that O-N-L-Y African-Americans leaders can govern in Washington, P-L-E-A-S-E!, how disingenuous and insulting.

    As you know, not ONLY African-American leaders govern this city. Nor have there been the suggestion that such should be the case. Perhaps, it’s your FEAR of this possibility that is truly disingenuous and insulting.

    --Just take a look at the track record of said leadership over the course of the past few years. Where do I begin? 1) Convictions and prison terms for corruption (and those are the ones who have been caught); 2) Censures; 3) Nepotism and cronyism rules the day; 4) Hiring incompetent and unqualified individuals at outrageous salaries, ad infinitum, ad hominem, ad naseum.

    Just as you attacked black leaders for violating the public trust, you could have easily attacked white leaders for violating the same public trust. Where do I begin? 1) Recipients of FBI Raids 2) Beneficiaries of stuffed envelopes containing suspicious cash 3) Chief of Staff given prison time 4) Collection of hundreds of thousands of dollars from a major city contractor 5) The Rigging of Multi-Million Dollars Contracts 6) The Steering of Multi-Million Dollars Contracts 7) The arranging of millions of dollars in city financing for campaign donors 8) Advocacy for tens of millions of dollars in tax breaks and all sort of financial relief for wealthy contacts. I mean the list goes on and on.

    The only difference between the city’s black and white politician’s misdeeds is how they were unfairly and unevenly pursued and punished. And I suggest that there is a nefarious reason for this.

    Again, it all goes back to the notion that white folks, in general, do not trust black politicians with their affairs regardless of their socio-economic background.

    It's this harsh reality that black leaders and black folks do not want to accept.

  • Marvin E. Adams

    @Tony:

    You get no argument from me, with respect to your points relative to corruption of A-L-L politicians. That is one of the main reasons why I am, and have always been a proponent of 1) term limits; 2) publicly financed campaigns and 3) non-party elections, to name a few. It's unfortunate that more of the residents in the city do not concur.

    I have been a resident of the city for ten years. During which time I have been privy to the acceptance of corrupt and self-serving politicians of both races, for myriad reasons. As recently as last year, a member of the hierarchy of the Democratic establishment made this pronouncement: "D.C. will N-E-V-E-R elect a white mayor."

    So as not to put him on the defensive, I waited to have a one-on-one with him and posed this hypothetical: Whom would you rather have as your mayor, a Carol Schwartz type or a Muriel Bowser type? His answer, I (we) would N-E-V-E-R elect a white mayor. So it seems some of us have not gotten past race when it comes to governance. And I think you, as well as others, are cognizant as to why. Succinctly, an unfortunately, politics, as usual, or as accepted, allows those in power to bring their family, friends and cohorts along for the ride. This was made explicitly clear at the conclusion of the 2010 mayoral election, when Mayor Gray hired "family" members and friends at salaries which far exceeded those of previous administrations.

    But unlike others I do offer a solution, which I alluded to earlier. Until, we, the citizens, become more active and stay engaged, the few individuals who have been making a mockery of government (see 1)city council positions being part-time; 2) council overturning the will of the people relative to term limits) will continue to do so. As an aside, thank you very much for your cordial and civil response. It gives me hope that there is still hope for our nation's capital.

    Folks--lets chill out and freaking vote for change. We don't need to be at each others throats. We are all, as tax payers getting shafted with ineffective leadership. The point to be made -- is that it is unfair to suggest that corruption and incompetency only occurs with "Black" politicians--I could be wrong but the only person suggesting that line of thinking on here was FreeBlackReign. I think Marvin was simply saying that it is ridiculous to say that only Black people can govern DC--which I agree. But I agree that it is necessary to clarify, to Marvin's point, that problems happen when unscrupulous persons govern--not just Black but also White, Latino, Asian and Martial as well. Chillax and vote!!

  • Marvin E. Adams

    @DontSleeponDude- Touche'
    I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment. Unfortunately, some of us have not acquired the skill of engaging in a civil discourse without resorting to name calling. Or worse yet, trying to gain points by belittling others. It seems that has become more of the norm than the exception these days.

    All of this would be totally unnecessary, if only we did as you suggested - V-O-T-E, with one caveat. And that is vote for the best qualified person!, irrespective of color, gender or social orientation. I am truly flabbergasted by the folks in this city that do not seem to grasp this concept.
