Gray Concedes Election to Bowser

Thirty minutes after his campaign manager announced that the campaign wasn't sure how to respond to Board of Elections vote totals that showed him losing by more than 10 percentage points, Mayor Vince Gray entered the ballroom: He'd lost the Democratic primary to Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser.

With poll results showing him losing to Bowser 44.1 percent to 32.8 percent, Gray congratulated Bowser on her win but seemed to hold back from endorsing her in the upcoming general election contest against independent At-Large Councilmember David Catania, saying only that his supporters would have to work hard to make sure his successor would be a good mayor for the city.

Gray also touched on the highlights of his administration, including the Walmart development in Ward 7's Skyland development and early childhood education.

He also blamed the April primary for low turnout in the race, suggesting that the primary should instead be held in the summer. "This is really poor," Gray said.

But that same early primary will also leave Gray a lengthy lame-duck period before he's replaced in office in January.

“If I’m going to be in this job for another nine months, I am going to work extremely hard," Gray said. "This will not be an experience where we sort of drift into the end of this administration."

    BOOM BYE BYE! Later Vince!

    So many people to thank:

Chuch Thies: Chuckles, who you gonna blame this one on? With Graham and Vince done on the same night, I hope you pocketed some Uncle Earl cash and saved it for a rainy day - amateur gadfly.

Vince Gray: Thanks for showing us what you really meant by "One City" in the last 48 hours of this election. You crooked, doddering old middle manager. Good luck with the indictment!

Marion Barry: Despite protestations to the contrary, your days as a "kingmaker" in DC are finally over. Thank God.

Sulaimon Brown: Thanks for providing some humor, but darn if you weren't right all along...

Uncle Earl: Enough said. Looking forward to the trial!

Harris, Gore, Hawkins: So, was it worth it?

Lorraine Green: At least you got some home repairs out of this mess.

    Condolences to my Onecitidiot fam:

SEis4ME: Another failed prediction! Best of luck next time.

tony: Looking forward to how you spin this one, bro.

NOODLEZ: Later, slim. Stay in your lane or whatever.

    Done City: 2010 2014.

    Onward and upward.

Like him or not, chuck thies did a pretty good job, though the get out the vote machinery didn't click. Bowser's emphasis on getting out the early vote solidified
And broadened the base, and The us attorney laid the foundation of the base.

    It's called prosecutorial discretion.

    I like noodelz. Original thinker.

the real issues remain radioactive. Nobody really has looked at uncle earl's business, just the money he threw at campaigns.

  • truth hurts

Gray gave a fairly classy concession speech.
