Marion Barry Endorsing Vince Gray Tomorrow
Mayor-for-Life Marion Barry will endorse Vince Gray for another term tomorrow afternoon. The announcement, which starts at 1 p.m., will be held at Matthews Memorial Baptist in Barry's Ward 8.
With the endorsement of Ward 7's Yvette Alexander locked up since the day he announced, the endorsement tomorrow from the Ward 8 councilmember will give Gray support from both of the east-of-the-Anacostia-River councilmembers. Over the weekend, Gray's campaign circulated the video above, in which Barry urges people to come meet Gray. Barry had also supported Gray in the 2010 election.
Earlier in the race, Barry met other mayoral candidates seeking his endorsement for lunches and judged them according to Ward 8 and African-American-themed agendas that he came up with. While Barry spokeswoman LaToya Foster confirmed that Barry will endorse a candidate tomorrow, she declined to name who the candidate will be (the news had originally been embargoed).
Washington Post reporter Paul Schwartzman accidentally broke the embargo on a Gray campaign media release this morning, inspiring a classic rage-out from Gray campaign manager Chuck Thies on Twitter. Despite an apology from Schwartzman, Thies promises to make the reporter a "poster child" for the Post's "recklessness," although he wouldn't explain how.
“Do you know what the most dangerous thing in nature is, Will?" Thies says, without elaborating on the metaphor. "A wounded animal."
