Vince Gray and Jeff Thompson in Happier Times

Vince Gray ripped into Jeff Thompson last night in his State of the Address address, calling the man who helped get him elected a "greedy man" who's lying about the mayor to save his own skin. Who do you believe, Gray asked the crowd—this dirtbag, or me?

But Gray didn't always think the man he once called "Uncle Earl" was such an unreliable judge of character. In a December 2009 D.C. Council nomination hearing, Gray was "delighted" to listen to Thompson give his opinion on someone.

This hearing was unearthed last year, but LL thinks it's worth revisiting after Gray's slams on his former benefactor last night. In the hearing (jump 13 minutes ahead in the video), Thompson shows up to speak in support of University of the District of Columbia board nominee Elaine Crider.

“We’re delighted to have Mr. Thompson here this afternoon," says Gray, then the chairman of the D.C. Council. "Welcome, Mr. Thompson. We’d be delighted to hear your testimony."

After Thompson's testimony, Gray calls him and another witness "outstanding civic leaders." Gray adds that Thompson taking time out of his day to testify on Crider's behalf would certainly help her nomination along. Gray may not be impressed with Thompson's honesty in 2014, but he sure was five years ago.

That's what happens when someone screws you over. Typically, you don't like them anymore. Gray (and a lot of others running for Mayor) trusted this guy, and he turned out to be really dirty. So now Gray feels betrayed. Get it?

Question - the indictment of the 5 Gray cronies - who took deals to cooperate with Machen - MUST add credibility to Thompson's admissions. Machen wouldn't build his case on just 1 felon.
And - why did the Mayor yesterday during his TV appearance - when questioned about the $40,000 "home improvement" payment from Thompson - state that he hadn't spoken with his children yet. REALLY? His son works for DCRA and they live in DC. HHMMMM???

Orange, Bowser, Evans, and Gray all took money from Thompson. Can we all get it together and elect Tommy already?

@Emily Tommy Wells shouldn't become Mayor just because he was the only one who didnt take a contribution.

Will this is quite low hanging fruit. "Happier Times" at a public hearing over which Gray was residing?

Isn't that like Chris Christie "cozying" up to Obama during Sandy? Or Charlie Christ being an Obama apologist because he embraced him?

He's basically given the same generic compliments to a million people, either as council chair or as mayor. Really grasping at straws here, aren't we?

It like a drug dealer (Jeffrey Thompson PAC) telling on the buyers (Politicians).

The Government cut a bad deal!

@Mike Given this analogy and taking the plea deal at face value, isn't Thompson the buyer (purchasing influence) while the politicians he's handing over are dealers (dealing influence)?

    OKAY AND????

SO WILL SOMMER WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOU SUBMITTING THIS!
I'M SURE EVERY COUNCIL MEMBER WHO WAS RECEIVING DONATIONS FELT THAT WAY ABOUT THOMPSON 5 YEARS AGO.

YOUR BLATENT NUT SACK GRABBING OF EVERYTHING PRO-ANTI-GRAY SHOULD AND NEED TO STOP.

IT MAKES YOU SEEM UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED.
LORD KNOWS WE CANT HAVE REPORTERS THIS WAY.
