Bowser Campaign Botches Banners

With less than a month before the Democratic primary, Muriel Bowser's mayoral campaign has taken to the air, hanging banners from the sides of buildings around the District. The banners are big, they're green—and, until recently, they've been in violation of District election law.

That's because the banners lack the Office of Campaign Finance–mandated language about who paid for them. While Bowser's campaign included Bowser slogan "DC Proud" in their order, they didn't remember to include required information like the name of Bowser's campaign committee, her campaign treasurer, or information about the committee filing reports with OCF. Without the language, it's not clear who paid to put Bowser on buildings across the city.

Rather than reprinting the banners (which looked pricey to LL), Bowser's campaign will be attaching the boilerplate to the existing sign, possibly with stickers. That's good enough for OCF, according to agency spokesman Wesley Williams.

"It was an oversight," says Bowser campaign manager Bo Shuff.

"Ignorance of the law is N-O excuse!" I wonder who the campaign manager of this operation may be. Campaign 101: Do not make unforced errors!

  • truth hurts

So all Gray's campaign literature (mailers, yard signs, banners, etc) that was illegally paid for by Thompson and illegally distributed by Hawkins (Gray's field general) contained false language about who paid for it, yet instead of writing about this aspect of the shadow campaign's massive conspiracy, LL writes about a few Bowser banners that her official campaign lawfully paid for but forgot to print on the banners -- something OCF doesn't care about.

LL, Thies rope a doped you big time.

@truth hurts, give me a break. The shadow campaign is old news, everybody knows about it. I have heard literally no one complain that the shadow campaign story hasn't been beat to death enough.

As for Bowser's signs, I don't really care. I suspect that the only people who do are hacks from other campaigns, but the fact remains that if you're going to play the campaign ethics card as your trump against the incumbent -- you'd better avoid your own mishaps that are catnip for a media looking to push back against canned talking points.

Poor, mess of a woman. I feel sorry for her.

"Catnip for media." Clever word smithing, and accurate characterization. Apparently you're wrong about the shadow campaign being old news, though, as evidenced by today's Thompson plea deal reports.

  • the realDC

The shadow campaign isnt old news. Vince Gray's good friend Jeff Thompson is making a plea deal tomorrow. Step right up we serving crow pie.

  • the realDC

Once again we can count on loose lips to dig up a non-news item. Tomorrow - "Muriel Bowser caught jaywalking" Monday breaking news - Muriel Bowser forgets to close lid on trash can -- Tuesday Alert - Muriel Bowser swats fly -PETA outraged ---lol. Silly reporting season has arrived

    2. plans a fundraiser at a home that is the home of Sinclair Skinner which everyone knows he stole or participated in stealing DC Gov funds and contracts

    3. now banners that are not approved by campaign finance office

why can't you people listen when told by those who actually live in her ward and have said she can't and hasn't mastered being a council member so why in the hell should she be given the keys to our city to f*ck that up

WASHINGTON - Four D.C. councilmembers may be impeding a federal investigation about recent campaign finances, and may have violated the terms of a subpoena by admitting they received it.

The investigation into campaign finances in District politics heated up recently after several elected officials acknowledged their campaigns have received grand jury subpoenas from the Office of the U.S. Attorney. Other councilmembers who likely received subpoenas, but have refused to publicly say so, have come under fire for not publicly admitting their campaign was issued the same subpoena as the others.

Councilmember Muriel Bowser, D-Ward 4, has repeatedly refused to say if her campaign was issued a subpoena, despite public records which show her campaign -- like mayor Vincent Gray's and almost every councilember's -- received thousands of dollars from Jeffery Thompson, the wealthy businessman at the center of the investigation.

Gray: 1/2 of campaign money was unreported, involved major operation to hide paper trail, claims he knew absolutely nothing

Bowser: hired the wrong graphic designer

  • noodlez

LOVE THE WAY THE DIZZY BROAD SUPPORTERS CONTINUE TO MINIMIZE HER SHORT COMINGS WITH SOME BULL SHIT ASS SPIN AS TO SOME SLIGHT OVERSIGHT ON HER PART. THIS IS WITH EVERYTHING SHE DOES!!!

HIRING THE WRONG GRAPHIC DESIGNER NOW TRANSLATES TO HIRING SOME MAKESHIFT ENGINEERING COMPANY TO TAKE LEAD ON A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR DC GOVERNMENT PROJECT.

Noodlez, when Gray looses, how about you take a long walk off of a short pier?
