Shadow Senate Candidates Argue Over Who Has the Shadier Past

Despite that fact that it's an unpaid, essentially meaningless position, Paul Strauss and Pete Ross both want to be one of the District's shadow senators. They want it so bad, in fact, that they were slinging mud at each other in mailers last weekend. And there's a lot of mud to sling.
First up: the above mailer from incumbent Strauss, which dubs deep-pocketed [...]

After a year of campaigning, the District's Democratic mayoral hopefuls will find out to which of them gets another seven months of campaigning against David Catania. First, though, it's time to party.

“Rent Is Too Darn High” Slate Looks to Upset Democratic State Committee Regulars

While most of the attention tomorrow will be focused on Vince Gray's attempt to hang on to the mayoral suite, another batch of incumbents will be facing a challenge much further down the ballot from the D.C. Democratic State Committee's "Rent Is Too Darn High" slate. And yes, they have the backing of a certain [...]

Gray Campaign Puts Out Another Anti-Bowser Video

The two leading mayoral hopefuls campaigned 10 minutes away from each other Sunday morning, with Vince Gray visiting Allen Chapel AME on Alabama Avenue SE and Muriel Bowser going to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church near Fort Dupont Park.
LL headed to Bowser's stop, where the homily centered on rejoicing during Lent. Bowser has her own reasons [...]

Equipped With Megaphones, Gray Motorcades Hit the Streets

Vince Gray campaign manager Chuck Thies likes to talk about his organization's high-tech database of likely voters, but his candidate spent Saturday afternoon on a more old-school campaign tactic. In a move reminiscent of the mayoral campaigns of Gray supporter Marion Barry, multiple convoys of Gray supporters equipped with megaphones cruised the city urging passers-by to vote for Gray.

Cork Wine Bar Owner Enters At-Large Race

Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal only has one day left as the District's sole restaurateur-turned-political candidate. Khalid Pitts, who owns Logan Circle's Cork Wine Bar and Cork Market and Tasting Room with his wife, tells LL that he'll file papers tomorrow to run as an independent in November's at-large election.
Pitts, 46, works as the treasurer for [...]

Vincent Orange Sues to Get Into Debate, Doesn’t Succeed

Andy Shallal wasn't the only longshot candidate outraged after being left out of last night's televised debate on WUSA9. While the Busboys and Poets owners asked his supporters for help getting into last night's, at-large D.C. Councilmember and fellow excluded candidate Vincent Orange tried a different tactic, filing suit yesterday against WUSA9 owner Gannett for harassment.
Orange's arguments for being [...]
