Gay Group Endorses David Catania’s Hypothetical Mayoral Run

David Catania hasn't decided yet whether he'll run for mayor, but the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is backing him anyway. The group, which helps LGBT candidates raise money, announced today that they're endorsing Catania for mayor.

In a release, an executive with the group described Catania as "ideally positioned to lead a city with such diverse and dynamic people."

In news about people actually running for mayor, Muriel Bowser landed an endorsement from pro-choice fundraising group EMILY's List. In a release, EMILY's List president Stephanie Schriock called Bowser "the best choice for Washington's next mayor."

A GROUP OF HOMOSEXUALS BACKING GAYTANIA?
    GREAT SCOOP WILLY EARL! NOTTT.

SOME IRRELEVANT FOLK BACKING AN IRRELEVANT JERK. IN OTHER NEWS. . .

BOWSER WOULD MAKE AN EXCELLENT NEXT MAYOR IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

i'm voting for Gray in the primary - he'll be indicted before the summer and we'll have Mayor-elect Catania by November!!

CATANIA WILL NEVER BE MAYOR OF THIS CITY.

He simply has too many powerful forces against him and they will unit to preserve this city’s culture of “Godly Governance.”

    correction:

CATANIA WILL NEVER BE MAYOR OF THIS CITY.

He simply has too many powerful forces against him and they will UNITE to preserve this city’s culture of “Godly Governance.”

If Catania enters the race (considered almost certain) he has a chance but an outside chance unless the Dem candidate is really weakened and the party is either disgraced or in dispute/dis-united. Carol Schwartz ran when Marion Barry returned from "paying his debt to society." She garnered 42% of the vote. Now demographics have changed in the intervening 20 years. But the base GOP vote locally has probably declined. I wouldn't count Catania out as he could raise a boat load of money. He has won citywide office (protected status). He has experience and savvy campaign support.

The decision for Catania rides on whether he has enough of a chance to make it worth giving up his Council seat to run for mayor. That's the biggie.

Best scenario here is for Catania to run and lose. Good riddance

People have been saying that "Gray will indicted any day now" since summer 2012. It hasn't happened yet and it's not going to happen. If Gray was as guilty as people say, he would have been cake walked out of the Wilson building over a year ago. Gray will win this primary. Both Evans and Andy will back out next month and throw their support towards Gray. Orange and Wells will do suprisingly well in the race but not enough to win. Muriel should have really waited until 2018 to run, and she would have had the support of Gray and others, but she has fumbled those chances. Most of well heeled financial backers jumped ship once Gray declared he was running.

Catania is too surly and nasty to be the mayor of the District.

    Excellent summation, DPW.
I concur, though I seriously doubt there was anything Bowser would have been able to do to get Gray's backing in 2018 even if she hadn't put her foot in it in 2014.

News flash to Gray backers: Assuming neither Thompson nor Gray is indicted in March, Gray probably will win the democrat primary on April Fools Day despite the likelihood that roughly 70% of democrats will vote for someone other than gray.

What would happen next? DC would get its first white mayor. How? Two scenarios: 1) Catania defeats Gray by cobbling together a coalition of Gray haters, independents, and republicans or 2) Gray defeats Catania and later resigns/steps down when he gets indicted/pleads guilty -- in which case Mendo, as council chair, becomes mayor.

Think I'm wrong? Certain I'm wrong? I'm not.

"Gray defeats Catania and later resigns/steps down when he gets indicted/pleads guilty -- in which case Mendo, as council chair, becomes mayor."

That would be rich, TH. Mendo, the Accidental Mayor.

Funny. If it happens, CP should credit you for coining the title!

    Agreed.

What is it with these Creeps?
First they prophesy with dates and times of hoped for indictments, now they hypothesize on what will happened 'when' it happens. Sound like a bunch of NUTS to me.

If anybody is or is not indicted, it will be because US Attorney Ronald Machen found reason to do so and not because some haters wish it was so.

What is so hard to understand about that very simple fact?
