Orange Lands Grocery Union Endorsement

So far in the mayor's race, Vince Gray has won nearly all of the announced union endorsements. Just today, the construction unions in the D.C. Building Trades Council endorsed his run for re-election. But now Vincent Orange has a union behind him: the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400.

In a press release, Local 400 president Mark Federici calls Orange "a fighter for D.C.'s working families." Federici's union, which claims 40,000 members in the D.C. area, represents many of the grocery store workers who pushed for the failed Large Retailer Accountability Act that Orange supported. Federici praised Orange for backing the bill and the successful minimum wage increase to $11.50 an hour.

"These achievements make public service gratifying," Orange says in the statement.

But Federici isn't just handing out plaudits. He also takes digs at Gray and Muriel Bowser for opposing the LRAA (although, interestingly, not fellow LRAA opponent and mayoral hopeful Tommy Wells).

"Unlike Mayor Vincent Gray and Council Member Muriel Bowser, Vincent Orange stood with Washington workers rather than an Arkansas-based behemoth," Federici says in the statement. "We need a mayor who values the well-being of D.C. residents more than the money of multi-billion dollar multinational corporations.”

Ahahah @TDCBS please keep the comments coming. Sounds like NOT EVERYONE WILL FORGET that BOWSER & GRAY SIDED WITH WAL-MART over paying residents fair wages.

If that isn't corrupt, I don't know what is!

VINCENT ORANGE lacks "political appeal". Point blank!

That's why he can't generate a large and significant political following in order to be a serious contender for the Mayor’s office.

The primary source for his lack of political appeal is his “political strategy” of tearing down his opponents opposed to building a political base motivated and inspired by his advocacy for some particular idea or cause.

Even his latest attempt to be the voice for the working poor is shallow because it's not part of any political pattern established by his more than 20 years of public service.

Simply put, VO lacks the political muscles to become Mayor of DC.

if they thought bowser was going to stand with them they wasted their time. just as all of the postings about bowser standing with returning citizens on social media are at best laughable.

@tony that argument makes no sense to me, "political appeal" is what constantly gets this city in trouble, Michael Brown, Adrian Fenty, Kwame Brown, Harry Thomas Jr., all had political appeal, all are the sons of Washington...all are a complete joke....yet this city can't accept a man who has the education, skill set, and vision to lead this city...I just don't get why people hate on Orange...

Yes, SOOOOO funny how many people get all worked up about bumping up the minimum wage. Maybe you're not bright enough to realize that most of the folks working for minimum wage are illegal immigrants and folks in their FIRST jobs. Neither are you bright enough to realize the "raise" in the minimum wage comes from middle-income pockets when merchants raise their prices across the board to cover their increase in payroll?

Please, stop showing how simple minded you are when it comes to the Dumocratic shilling to those who exhibit low intelligence levels.

@TDCBS Unless you make over $300K (Yes, I make over that amount), I suggest you leave the "bright" "not bright" comments to someone in my price range.

Minimum wage doesnt help nor hurt my pockets, but that doesnt mean that residents of DC don't deserve a respectable wage.

The only reason yall are trying to dumb it down is because your weak ass candidates didnt have the guts to fight for DC residents.
