Tommy Wells Hires Former Gray Campaign Deputy

The plethora of District mayoral candidates has meant a job for many political operatives. Sometimes, it means more than one job. Less than a month after exiting Vince Gray's re-election bid after its surprise Ward 8 straw poll loss, former Gray deputy campaign manager Kouri Marshall has been hired onto Ward 6 councilmember and mayoral hopeful Tommy Wells' campaign.

Wells campaign manager Chebon Marshall says Kouri Marshall, who didn't respond to LL's request for comment, will be working as a consultant on get-out-the-vote work. (The two aides are not related.) Chebon Marshall says the campaign had been considering hiring Kouri Marshall, who managed Anita Bonds' successful D.C. Council bid last April, before he left Gray's operation.

Gray campaign manager Chuck Thies told LL that he wishes Marshall well. "Just because someone was not able to succeed in one environment, doesn’t mean that I’ve written them off," Thies says.

Great, another opportunity for Kouri to demonstrate that he's a hack. At least as a consultant he won't have staff to mismanage.

    GO GRAY!

C Marshall was considering hiring K Marshall before he left the Gray campaign????? Did K Marshall plan to leave the Gray campaign before he was terminated?

This is some really strange stuff. You can't make it up.

    Politics 101:

N-E-V-E-R join the "other guys" during the course of an election campaign, especially after having worked for the "other guys" during the course of the same campaign! To do so speaks to character, lotalty, conviction, or perhaps more to the point, lack thereof. I'm just saying.

BTW, I am quite sure Mr. Thies had to have been misquoted: "Just because someone was not able to succeed in one environment, doesn't mean that I've written them off." That quote begs so many retorts I do not know where to begin...

Interesting, not really sure I care. What I will continue to say if Wells plan on winning the election start investigaing some of these agencies. Please start asking the right questions. Take a closer look at the data being presented at these oversight hearings. Do a poll with some of your current government workers. Not the executive team. Look at the budgets and the hiring practieces at ADRC/Office on Aging, DYRS and Health Care Finance. Wells you can do this, you understand Social Services therefor you should have some idea about these agencies and whats not being done.

Gray shoild have hired and appointed Directors that live in DC permanently.

  • HUAlum71

watchdog: are you implying Gray should do something illegal requiring that appointees and Directors live in DC permanently?

Did Nickles live in DC permanently?
Didn't you know that the Mayor cannot mandate that someone live in DC permanently?

How can we have faith in your ranting and raving about the egregious statements you make about agency heads and their departments if you're naïve enough think the Mayor can mandate where someone lives permanently? Just askin'.

You can interpet what i said however you like who cares. Its my opinion and I am entitled to it. The DC residents can callow all the government positions to be utilize by Md and VA residents. You are right its not a big deal for the citzens of DC. It is what it is no debate here.

Kouri Marshall has demonstrated once again that he is green and a real amateur. He did not lift a finger for Gray. He has always been working for himself.

    Good riddance Gray folks.

Tommy Wells is desperate and without any energy. His only asset is being a sitting councilmember, once he is gone, he will be nothing more.

  • HUAlum71

    Come on, watchdog!!
    A watchdogs jobs is 24/7.
They can't wimp out when challenged about their beliefs that something is wrong on their watch. Know what I'm sayin' here.

If you can't explain all of your accusations and defend them properly, you should go on back up on the porch, little puppy.

"Tommy Wells, a Red D.C. Council Member, Sets His Sights on Becoming Mayor of Washington."

SO OL' TOMMY HIRES A CAMPAIGN WORKER FROM LEADER IN POLLS, WHO WAS LET GO AFTER AN UNIMPRESSIVE SHOWING IN WARD 8 STRAW POLL GATHERING, WAS REHIRED BY A CAMPAIGN THAT IS MIRED IN A SECOND TO LAST PLACE FINISH, TO BASICALLY DO THE SAME WORK HE DIDN'T DO?

ON TOP OF THAT TO LET IT OUT TO THE PRESS AND THAT YOU DID A STUPID ASS THING. WHAT THE FUCK???

    WELLS CAMPAIGN MEET BRICK WALL.
    BRICK WALL MEET WELLS CAMPAIGN.

Yea, something does seem strange. The amount of respect Kouri actually gets from the Gray campaign (none of them especially Thies) says that Kouri was fired---there is a reason for that and I don't think it's courtesy. That campaign wreaks just like the first one did. Maybe Kouri was just tired of politics as usual. At least with Tommy Wells campaign there is a shot to work with integrity. I commend Kouri for sticking it out in a District that isn't even his home territory. More power. Hang in there young guru.

  • Lovethepeople

This is going to be great for the Wells campaign...NOT

Kouri Marshall is a self serving amateur. I've worked with Kouri on two campaigns and all I can say is good luck tommy.
