Mayoral Power Rankings: Not Quite Yet

Three weeks in, LL's Mayoral Power Rankings are already the most closely watched listicle of 2014. Various campaigns have been sweating LL to up their rank, but the process remains incorruptible.

While LL's commitment to momentum accuracy won't be changed, though, the Friday deadline for this week's power rankings will be. With campaign finance reports due by midnight tonight, LL's postponing these rankings until tomorrow.

    A lot of people I know are among the undecided, purposely waiting to see which candidates truly get mileage and telling me they don't plan to make up their minds until the last minute. Compared to some parts of the county where you get dumbed-down, brain-dead crackpots like Sarah Palin and or Spanish Inquisition-style religious fanatics like Ken Cuccinelli and Eugene Delgaudio, in the end, there's not a hell of a lot of difference policy-wise in the candidates running for mayor. Gray and Shallal beat the rest in executive experience. Meanwhile, I'll just keep dancing to Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams hoping to "Get Lucky." Straw polls, House of Cards, whatever!

    It's really hard to see how, with such a divided field of credible challengers, Gray can lose the primary. It's akin to the Ward One Democratic race, where Graham had the benefit of a divided field until this week.

    If it were just Gray vs. Bowser, Bowser would probably win, but with Evans and Wells likely to hold about 10% each, she has a more difficult path.

    @Zed

    In my opinion, although Gray may have more executive experience, that does mean that he's the best candidate to lead the city. I believe that he's more interested in serving special interests than serving the citizens of the City.

    @Peter Orvetti:

    Good point. But I believe that Gray will be indicted before the primary.

  • schoolman

    MY PREDICTION - GRAY WON'T MAKE IT TO THE APRIL 1, 2014 PRIMARY.

    When J. Thompson is indicted, its going to be over for Gary - JT will not go to jail to protect Gray. I believe that the US Attorney's Office will offer Thompson a deal which requires that he come totally clean or else. Then he'll give "up the goods" on Gray. Then Gray will accept a plea bargain and bow out of the race. This will allow him to save face.

    I can hear Gray's speech now ... "Citizen's of my beloved city, I have decided to withdraw as a candidate. Although I didn't commit a crime, I have decided not to put the City, or myself, through the rigors of a long trial."

    He should have never announced his candidacy. And he is fortunate that I am not the U.S. Attorney or the Judge that will be assigned to his case. I would send his a--
    to prison.

    CORRECTION

    In my opinion, although Gray may have more executive experience, that DOESN'T mean that he's the best candidate to lead the city. I believe that he's more interested in serving special interests than serving the citizens of the City.

    @Peter Orvetti:

    Good point. But I believe that Gray will be indicted before the primary.

    Oh No You Don't, ejcoleman: No CORRECTIONS on Freudian Slips. You see, the subconscious mind NEVER lies.

    And correct me if I am wrong, but your benign statement regarding 'special interests' dilutes what you thought you were saying. After all, 'special interests' for most of Gray's career has been his 'special interest' in a very vulnerable population. And what is wrong with that?

    Please give it a break. AND OH MY GOSH: We all thank GOD IN HEAVEN ABOVE that you were not given the intellect to become a US Attorney or a Judge; though there are many of those who are just as pompous and misguided as you.

  • schoolman

    @ neo/dino:

    You've certainly made your share of typos. Your ineffective insults will not change the following:

    MAYOR GRAY WILL BE INDICTED.

  • CHRIS HAUSER

    many of my typos are DUE TO THAT DAMN AUTOFILL, as opposed to the dead hand of dr. freud.

    now, what can i say that would be clever?

    nothing much, it's a dull town.

  • noodlez

    YO WILLY EARL WHAT DOES CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTS HAVE TO WITH POWER RANKINGS?

    MAYOR GRAY SLAYING THEM BAMMAS.
    UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS ARE DOWN.
    DC GOT A SURPLUS OF MONEY.
    HE IS MAKING PROPER DECISIONS AS TO THE BEST FIT FOR THE CITY.
    NEED I SAY MORE!

    SLIM YOU NEED TO PUT THIS THANG TO REST AND ADVISE THOSE WANNABE CAMPAIGNS (ORANGE, WELLS, BOWSER) TO STOP SWEATING YOU BECAUSE THEY OUGHT TO KNOW YOU CAN'T STOP A TANK BY THROWING ROCKS AT IT!

    THEY SHOULD GET OUT KNOW WHILE THEY GOT A CHANCE.
    HITCH THEIR WAGONS FOR ANOTHER 4 YEAR RIDE THEN WE WILL SEE WHAT THEY GOT FOR THE NEXT ROUND IN 2020.

    ONE CITY.

  • neo/dino

    OH NO: 'Don't woke 'em, noodlez, let 'em slept.'
    Please don't tell them to get out.
    Let that Gray train roll over their tired power grabbing behinds long enough to know exactly what hit them.

    Orange, Wells and Bowser are prime examples of what the haters (as my grandkids say) try to put on the Mayor.

    As for that pompous donkey, ejcoleman: TYPOS????? You're the one making all of the stupid errors. Typos are one thing, SYNTAX and misspelling 'chest' for chess (when you're trying to appear bright) is a whole other ball of wax.

    Oh yes!! And your Freudian Slips are telling as well. Go back to the sandbox, little boy; and step out of those big boy shoes you've been playing around in. You need shoes that fit when you start trying to walk over giants like 'noodlez', 'tony', 'HUAlum71', and me (AND MY OLD, BUT CERTAINLY NOT TIRED BEHIND) as well.

    Now I have to go to Church and I'll pray for you. Not as much as I pray for the Mayor and our city, but I will pray for you. You're welcome and don't go there with a crude statement about offered prayers....

  • schoolman

    @neo/dino

    When did I ever say that I'm smart? But, if it'll make you feel better, I'll start proofreading my comments.

    You'll pray for me? Given the rude and ugly comments you've made intending to wound - No thanks!

  • schoolman

    @ neo/dino:

    Finished praying for me? Your prayer probably went like this:

    "Please strike the Schoolman down! You should destroy him because his opinions differ from my own - he sins when he says things that I don't like! Wipe him from the face of the earth because he misspelled CHESS (the game)- he spelled it CHEST! Twice! I now that I've repeatedly called him and others vulgar names. And I know that I've clearly shown my hatred. But that doesn't matter because I just put 50 cents in the collection plate!! SEE?

  • neodino

    ejcolman, be careful what you pray for. Most of my own have been answered.

    Your comment in #12 is exactly what I mean about Freudian Slips. How utterly foolish of you to presume to know what anyone else prays for. But nonetheless, I did put it in the hands of the Lord and I have a feeling the result of that prayer will be to continue to pray for you AND yours. They really need it.

    Your lack of insight is very telling. And no, you didn't ever say you are smart, thank God. Even you know better than that!!!!

    I hope LL takes my comment just before this one out of moderation. It is the last time I will read or respond to anything with your name attached to it.

  • schoolman

    @ Chris Hauser:

    I have a good one for you:

    ONLY THOSE CRAZY ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN CHANGE THE WORLD ARE THE ONLY ONE'S THAT EVER DO.

  • neo/dino

    schoolBOY: Careful what you pray for because even if you're trying to mock another's prayer for you, it's been my experience that prayers are answered.

    But I have some powerful prayers and I will continue to pray for you because you need it much more than I thought.
