Vincent Orange Kicks Off His Campaign

Toward the end of his speech Sunday night, Vincent Orange asked the roughly 200 people in the room to stand. He had something big to announce: He's running for mayor.

No kidding! Orange's campaign hasn't been a secret since a surrogate picked up nominating petitions for him in November. Aside from some lamppost signs, though, Orange has been less prominent in the race than his rivals.

Orange aimed to change that with his black-tie gala announcement at Gallaudet University's Kellogg Conference Hotel, unveiling twin themes for his campaign: "Leaving No One Behind" and "Taking No One for Granted."

After that, Orange hit incumbent Vince Gray where it hurts—in the cranes. While Gray likes to tout the construction cranes in the skyline as evidence of his economic success, Orange says they're due to the work of another mayor and D.C. Council chair. "Those cranes belong to the [Anthony] Williams/[Linda] Cropp administration," Orange said.

As for whether his announcement portends a more visible campaign schedule, Orange was characteristically cryptic, telling LL to "stay tuned."

Wonder if his "side squeeze" still works for him (on the public payroll)?

  • noodlez

I OFTEN ASK WHY PEOPLE THAT ARE HARD ON THE EYES ARE ALWAYS SAYING IN SO MANY WORDS AND GESTURES "LOOK AT ME"?

THIS BAMMA IS A BAMMA FO REAL!
JUST BECAUSE THIS JOKER LOSS WEIGHT DOESNT MAKE HIM ANY LESS GREEDY!

STAND UP EVERYBODY MR. PIG IS GOING TO WASTE RESOURCES AGAIN. IN ORDER FOR HIM RUN FOR ANOTHER OFFICE AGAIN. THAT HE WILL NOT WIN AGAIN.

  • HUAlum71

An we should use da Harlem/Apollo hook to snatch him and that Mz PIG, B Tolson, off the stage with him, Sandman style.

  • schoolman

Regardless of his appearance, which is irrelevant, Orange made a very significant point. The initiatives that spurned so much development in select wards of the city were initiated by Williams and were subsequently embraced by Fenty. It takes years to plan and initiate large scale development projects.

I am concerned that the fundamentals of urban planning are being either overlooked or ignored. Our city is becoming too congested because the infrastructure is not structured to accommodate either the vehicles or the traffic.

Thursday before last, I left upper NW (driving) at 7:00 p.m. I took me over 2 hours to get to my home in SE.

  • noodlez

@SCHOOLBOY-WHO GIVES A FUCK??? NEXT TIME TAKE METRO!

  • schoolman

    noodlez:

It's not that simple. Although, Metro is a convenient form of transportation I prefer to have the option of using it, or not, depending upon what I am attempting to accomplish.

The traffic congestion is becoming a big issue in the city and I wonder what kind of evacuation plan has been established in case of a major emergency like 9-11.

Remember how the city was gridlocked on 9-11? It was virtually impossible to get out of the heart of city by way of vehicle and there was no way I was going underground to catch the subway. If it has not done so already, the city needs to develop a comprehensive emergency evacuation plan.

But back to Orange's point, I don't think that any person familiar with city planning believes that Mayor Gray is
responsible for the current boom in development. Again, this took years of planning that took place well before he became Mayor.

  • Typical DC BS

@HUAlum71: That would be awesome to see.

  • eddie

    noodlez:

You must have been under-educated in DC. It shows.
Everything you write demonstrates your ignorance and quite frankly, it is an embarrassment.

Educated people try to avoid people like you like the plague. You are the essence of ignorance and stupidity. A true simpleton and buffoon.

  • eddie

    noodlez:

Now, try to post an intelligent response ... I guarantee you can't do it. You are an embarrassment noodlez.

Everyone, read this low class buffoon's upcoming silly response.

  • Chow Mein

@Noodlez slim you are clearly lunching. I am from Savannah Terrace and Vince Gray has not done ANYHING for east of the river since he has been in office. He is pressed to attend all the ribbon-cuttings and the grand openings.....MAN WHERE IS THE SKYLAND DEVELOPMENT?

That fool also let us get punked by Wal-Mart and Orange was the only sensible person trying to carry them. We need to get all of the councilmembers east of the river off the council!

  • schoolman

    noodlez and Chow Mein:

    Please hear me.

We hear a lot about the under-education of students in the D.C. Public Schools. They say that they are so concerned that we are not receiving a proper education because it makes it harder for us to compete in the job market. But you know that most could care less about our wellbeing.

The truth is they are so concerned about our under-education because they know that no matter how hard they try to avoid us, eventually they will be confronted with our ignorance personally - They will personally be required to endure our ignorance on the Metro, on the street, at a shopping mall, at a public park or on a blog.

But I say to those who say that we are ignorant and inferior, you are a lie. We know how to speak and act intelligently, - we know how to walk upright in a manner worth of respect. Lets chose to do so.

noodlez. Represent us man .. represent us.

    Chow Mein:

I totally agree with your point. Mayor Gray speaks of his alleged development accomplishments and his deep commitment to Ward 7 and Ward 8 residents. But there is no evidence of his alleged commitment. Our unemployment rate remains by far the highest in the city, the development is concentrated in other wards, we lack entertainment options, we lack restaurants where can purchase healthy meals, and the list goes on and on and on.

But we do have a strong police presence - the strongest in the city if you get my point.

  • schoolman

    Furthermore:

Gray supporters assert that we are "his people." Please!

I have resided in SE Washington for over 20 years. I venture throughout SE nearly every day. Mayor Gray's house is about 1 mile for my house. I never seen
him in SE grocery store, gas station, park, carry-out,
convenient store, or any other place in SE for that matter except when is campaigning for election.

  • tony

    @noodlez

    Check this out!

schoolman, eddie, ecoleman and chow mein are all the same person.

schoolman admitted that he is ecoleman. Now Eddie and chow mein all agree with ecoleman and schoolman.

And guess what: ecoleman and schoolman admitted some time ago that they are from Savannah Terrace. Now, chow mein says he's from savannah terrace too. And, of course, they all dislike the same one politician-Mayor Gray.

    This clown is debating HIMSELF!LOL!

  • schoolman

    Tony:

I am not eddie or chow mein.

I am ecoleman or schoolman. In explanation, I began posting comments as ecoleman. In replying to my posts, many of which related to a school related matter, many people who responded referred to me as "schoolman." You yourself repeatedly called me "schoolman" even though I identified myself as ecoleman. In response, I accepted the name schoolman and began to use it. I did so knowing that those who had followed my postings knew that schoolman and ecoleman were the same person.

Although I am from SE, I am not from Savannah Terrace and I have never said that I was from Savannah Terrace.

I am not eddie or chow mein.

Tony, its time for you to accept the fact that a lot of people in SE don't support Gray. This morning I was speaking with a group of my neighbors. One said that she had attended the straw poll and that the audience heckled Gray so bad that she felt sorry for him and left the event. I don't know, because I wasn't there. But the election is a hot topic of conversation in SE and the opinion expressed by Chow Mein is expressed by a lot of people. You are fooling yourself if you don't believe that a large segment of the SE population is opposed to Gray.

  • schoolman

    Tony:

Let me explain something to you. I assisted in the maintenance of the management of the contract for the maintenance and repair for elevators and life safety equipment in the D.C. Public Schools. They were in disrepair and the District could not renew the licenses until they had been repaired. The District didn't want to spend the money to repair them and made the decision not to do so and renew the licenses. I was afraid that something would happen and that someone would get hurt. I was the new guy - the fall guy they had in place to take the fall if someone got hurt. That is why they terminated me when I complained about the expired licenses. When I complained, they could no longer use me as the fall guy if someone got hurt one of the elevators. I was no longer of use to them once I complained because they could no longer use me as the fall guy. Why do you think that I spoke about the elevators on the blog. Did you think that I thought that someone would force the District to rehire me? Please! I was making a point that this is how Gray operates. He makes decisions, while knowing that the decision is risky, and sets someone else up to take the fall for him if something goes wrong.

  • noodlez

@EDDIE (OR WHOEVA THE FUCK U ARE) - CHAMP I DON’T TAKE REQUESTS NOR WILL I FALL FOR THE BANANA IN THE TAIL PIPE TRICK!

YOU GOTTA COME BETTA THAN THAT WEAK ASS NAME CALLING TO DRAW ME OUT. I’VE BEEN CALLED WORSE BY BETTER FOLK THAN YOUR TIRED ASS!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS STOP READING MY COMMENTS BECAUSE YOUR DEFENSIVE COMPOSITION IS NOT EQUIPPED FOR A NIGGA LIKE ME!

    LET ME BE CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!
LIKE I SAID BEFORE AND I’M SAYING IT AGAIN VINCENT ORANGE SORRY ASS WON’T WIN SHIT.

    SHOW IS OVER.
    FADE TO BLACK.

  • eddie

    noodlez:

Understood ... you have proved that you're ignorant. Now prove that you're smart. Say something intelligently ... bet you can't!

Prove to me that I am wrong! I dare you!

  • HUAlum

    EJ Coleman.

In case you've forgotten you were referred to as schoolman because of the play on the French word for school attached to the last syllable in your name. But hey, I like noodlez' moniker 'schoolboy' much better. That's how you come across.

Now read this carefully because it is the last time I intend to respond to ANYTHING you say. Matter of fact, I refuse to read any more of your comments. That being said, if you're still reading my own:

Vince Gray left his wallet on the counter in the CVS in Skyland and the clerk tried to use it. Had to be shopping there to do that. Andy why would he do most of his own shopping anyway? He probably has someone to do those little things for him.

The man works up to 16 hours each week-day and probably 10 hours on week-ends. He spends each and every day crossing the river to get home. I know for a fact that his appointments manager does not discriminate about where to set up appearances.

And if you think the Mayor of any city is the person responsible for you getting fired for snitching on the elevator inspection thing you are TRES DOMMAGE; COMPRENDEZ-VOUS????

Eddie: "Low class buffoon?", Dawg or Bitch, if you prefer, noodlez is a legend on this site. You betta recognize. He is chewing you up and spitting you out like a blob of chewed tobacco.

Savannah Terrace? Yeah right! Bet you're scared to step outta your door at night. And your defensive composition ain't the only thing ill prepared to deal with regarding a whole lotta niggahs.

But you already know that don't you? That's why you hide behind LL and MM to get your little phony macho jollies on.

    As tony says: BONK! BONK!!

  • schoolboy

    HUAlum71:

You have not refuted a single point that I made. Four members of his campaign have pled guilty to a felony. All 4 have admitted that they broke finance laws working to get Mayor Gray elected. But Gray would like you to think that he didn't know. That's laughable. Use your common sense! Why would these people sacrifice themselves committing a crime for Gray if he (Gray) is unwilling to participate in the crime himself? That's silly and that is not how things go in the real world.

No, if I'm going to commit a crime and you're going to benefit from it, you damned sure going to help.

HUAlum71, as for the elevator and life safety equipment situation, how do you know what Gray did or did not know? Were you there to witness who spoke to who? Earlier you wrote that I was wrong to report the expired license because I didn't have anything to do with them. You stated that "they have people to handle that type of stuff." You didn't know that I was the person responsible for them.

Plainly put, you don't what you are talking about. If you had a question, you should have asked me.

As for the incident when you say that Mayor Gray left his wallet in Skyland liquors, I didn't mean that Gray is never in SE or that he never goes any where in SE! To the contrary - I also stated that his home is in SE. My point is that he is not the patron of SE that he pretends to be. When you venture throughout SE on a regular basis, you regularly see the people who are regular patrons in SE. Again, I never see him anywhere in SE unless he's running for election. Obviously, you don't live over here - if you did, you would now that what I am saying is true.

SE votes are not guaranteed to Gray. A lot of people here don't support him. Last election most over here supported him because they were sick of Fenty. Know, he is in the position that Fenty was in and people are tired of him. Over here, its not as mush about the campaign corruption issue. As expressed by Chow Mein, people don't have entertainment, eating, shopping, employment, etc. options over here. The unemployment rate is still far to high over here. Gray is continuously bragging about development but .. "Ain't no cranes over here."

    Open your eyes man!

  • Al Edmondson

To all concerned or interested... First of all, I don't care to hide behind nicknames etc. Let people go for what they know. My view is that most unaccomplished people become a bit defensive or even jealous about someone who has achieved as mu h as Vincent Orange.Heck even the accomplished and well educated are also. The real deal is no matter how much you don't like his appearance, his stance on things, or even his so called bragging look at mem, borderline grandiose image. The facts are undeniable that he gets things done ina big way. He looks out for the blue collar workers, the low income families, and the average joe's interest. That what SE needs more than any other part of this city and that undisputed. He's written the most legislation to help those of us who may not be at the top of the food chain. mayor gray has had a shot and hasn't delivered the goods He is a proven liar (as evidenced by the 4 others taking the beef for his sake) and I personally hope they are well compensated for not snitching him out and contributing to the greater good. They are true soldiers and I hope it was worth it for them. Back to the message, Orange understands the city administration, his it works, where they are wasting govt.resources, the auditing, who in the govt. Is not spending with minority businesses. He addresses all this kind if stuff now. These are the issues we need to deal with on a more serious basis. With him as Mayor this can really be the springboard that SE needs..Improving the plight of SE is good for the city. Not only more economic recovery but it better for the entire city tax base and subsidy contributions. More employed people better, neighborhoods, support programs, community input etc. We already know that there's no other candidate running who will purposely seek to create a more balanced playing field than Vincent Orange. Why do I say that? He already proven it with Ward 5 in demanding jobs for Ward 5 residents after going out of town and recruiting those businesses to come and build stores in his Ward.(Home Depot,Giant,TJMaxx, etc). So why are we still playing with copycats, who are just waking up to the game when we already know a brother who's got it Down pat. Look who sponsored the new minimum wave billed that was recently passed.Yep Orange..Gray was the last person in the Metro area(DC,MD,VA.)in a leadership position to even sign off on it. Of course he proposed $8.25/hr. Then lied about it later. Well, what do you expect, practice makes perfect. Anyway, Orange can brag, say look at me, and do whatever he wants as long as he is delivering the good I will vote for him all day and everyday. No one has matched his progress. So the rest can just step back...
