Vincent Orange Is Running for Mayor

vo_new-1

The rumors that At-Large Councilmember Vincent Orange would run for mayor were proven correct today when a woman named Gerri Adams-Simmons picked up nominating petitions on behalf of Orange at the Board of Elections.

Adams-Simmons Says her group, calling itself the Draft Committee to Save Our City, met with Orange and asked him to run because of his advocacy for jobs, affordable housing, and a living wage.

"We felt that he had the integrity and the intelligence and the compassion to bring the city back to the people," Adams-Simmons says.

Why couldn't Orange get the petitions himself? James Brown, Orange's chief of staff, says Orange is out of town and will be back Tuesday.

The race got still more crowded after Orange's petition was picked up. Busboys & Poets owner and potential candidate Andy Shallal says he's getting still closer to a mayoral run. In an appearance on WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi Show this afternoon, Shallal said he's planning to pick him petitions soon, with an announcement at Ben's Chili Bowl to follow on Tuesday.

  • Typical DC BS

    God help us.

  • elflandish

he has taken on the heavy mantle of michael brown, the retired populist champion.

no need for god to help us, ain't no chance in hell he can win.

  • qwerty

I am totally disappointed that NOODLEZ hasn't made a comment yet. That was the only reason I clicked on a article about froggy.

  • Bob

I wonder if the nascent Gray re-election campaign is paying Orange to get into the race. Now the Mayor can say that he's not the most corrupt candidate running! Way to go, Vinces!

Well................he's off to a GREAT start!!!

This is awesome in the "Wow, this has to be a joke" kind of way.

    ON A FUCKING FRIDAY!???
WHILE THIS MOFO IS OUTTA TOWN!???

LET ME GUESS TO PREPARE A STATEMENT FOR A MONDAY PRESSER TO LOOK MAYORAL? WHO IS RUNNING THAT CLOWN AND PONY SHOW? EVERYONE CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH HIS FAKE ASS BECAUSE THE LAST THING BLACK FOLK IN DC ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR AND ELECT AS MAYOR IS A FAKE ASS NIGGA. THEY’VE BEEN BURNED ONCE ALREADY. SEE ADRIAN FLENTY.

THIS CARPETBAGGING BAMMA REMINDS ME OF KYLE SHANNY THINKING HE GOT THE GOODS EXCEPT WHEN IT IS TIME TO SHOW AND PROVE. THAT IS WHEN HE CHOKES IT UP LIKE SOME SAD ASS MILLENIAL AFTER A FRIDAY NIGHT BEER GARDEN BENDER. WHAT COULD THIS JOKER POSSIBLY RUN ON? HIS OTHER FAILED ATTEMPTS AT A HIGHER OFFICE, HIS TIME AT THE 2ND WORSE AGENCY IN THE REGION (PEPCO) AFTER WMATA OR THE WAY HE TIP TOES THROUGH THE GARDEN OF DC GOV AS NOT TO MAKE ANY MISTAKES OR GET NOTICED?

THIS IS THE SAME BAMMA WHO OVERSPENT FOR A KIRK FRANKLIN CONCERT WHERE LOCAL HOME GROWN TALENT WOULD HAVE SUFFICED FOR EMANCIPATION DAY. THIS IS THE SAME BAMMA WHOSE TOUCHY FEELY PICS WITH STAFFER REEKS OF INAPPROPRIATENESS. I’M SORRY VINCENT “JABBERJAW” ORANGE WILL NOT BE THE MAYOR OF WASHINGTON, D.C. I PERSONALLY WOULD VOTE FOR RETA OR GROSSO BEFORE I WOULD VOTE THIS DUDE. HE STRIKES ME AS THE TYPE OF GUY WHO WOULD HAVE EVERY DIPLOMA, CERTIFICATE OR ACHIEVEMENT FRAMED ON THE WALL BEHIND HIM AS IF HIS RESUME SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY GRANDFATHER HIM IN SOMETYPE OF OFFICE.

AS IT STAND NOW MY PREDICTION FOR DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY:
    1. MAYOR GRAY
    2. BOWSER
    3. EVANS
    4. LEWIS
    5. WELLS
    6. SHALLAL
    7. ORANGE

    MANY BAMMAS ONE CITY!

  • native_resident

  • noodlez

@NATIVE-I MAYBE A HOT BAMMA BUT I AIN'T NO FAKE ASS NIGGA.

FYI-SLIM I WAS BORN AT THE COLUMBIA HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN IN 1966. I GREW UP BY SURSUM CORDA, NY AVE PLAYGROUND AND HANOVER PLACE.

SOME FOLKS SAY THAT I'M FOOLISH BUT THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT JUST SKIM THRU MY COMMENTS. AGE IS NOTHING BUT A NUMBER AND A PUNK I AM NOT SO YOUR IDLE THREAT DOESN'T APPLY TO ME.

MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME IF YOU ARE GOING TO THROW STONES DON'T HIDE YOUR HAND. I STAND BY EVERY COMMENT I MAKE! YOU NEED TO GET OVER HOW I PRESENT MY GHETTO POINT OF VIEW AND TRY TO FIND YOUR OWN SIGHT LINES LEST YOU WILL BE DUPED.

ALSO NO ONE SAYS "THEY HAPPEN TO BE FROM DC" WE ACTUALLY SAY WE ARE WASHINGTONIANS!

  • RealDC

Ahh, no surprise here. I saw this coming a year ago. Makes sense. Out of the current declared candidates, he is the only one that has run and won city wide on several occasions. Between the Post, his colleagues and noodlez VO has been to hell and back. What else can anybody say about him?

As it stands right now, he would beat the current group of candidates. Gray is not running if VO is running. I am sure they have talked.

VO wins wards 5,7,8 and will get a strong showing in 4, if not win it outright. VO will be Mayor. Bowser is done, she might get 4 but that would be it. Wells will win 6 and thats it. Evans will win 2, maybe 3. Ward 1 will get evenly split among VO, Evans and Wells.

Anyway, you slice it. VO will win. He is the only candidate that has successfully ran and won city-wide.

VO is a survivor. He has outlasted Kwame Brown, Fenty, Harry Thomas etc. He whipped Biddidle, Weaver, Mara on several occasions. The Post has run negative story that they can come up with on him and he has still won. He has survived negative crap from Catania.

I am not a VO supporter but him being a candidate will be good and will bring some excitement to an otherwise flat race. Bowser offers nothing. Wells is stuck on his pious bullshiggy. Evans is trying to win the lamp post race.... enough red signs Evans. Please no more damn signs on lamp posts!! That ward 2 crap does not play any where else in the city.

    Mayor Orange.......perhaps?

Yes, VO is a bama........but sometimes you need a bama to get it started!!

    For real!

  • Bob

If being a political survivor were the main qualification to be DC mayor, let's just acclaim the champion of survivors, Marion Barry, to be the official Mayor for Life, to go with his longtime nickname. We can then dispense with further elections, and save the money. I think of Orange less as a survivor than as a hapless perpetual candidate who has run (usually repeatedly) for just about every city office and mostly lost.

Gray, for all of his faults and baggage, at least has turned out to be fairly competent (and even respected) as mayor. Orange is considered a joke from the corridors of the District Building to the corridors of Capitol Hill. If Orange became mayor, his term would likely be a non-stop clownfest, and not of the funny kind. He'd likely set back home rule, budget autonomy, a vote in Congress by two decades at least. Plus, he's still Pepco's man on the council.

  • Sally

Please tell me you don't mean that Gray is respected as Mayor. The shadow campaign and promoting kids of his cabinet to positions they were not qualified for with a big salary should not be forgotten. This is the same man who still has no ethics or integrity and does not know how to do the job. What he has done is hired a new PR person who has told him what positions to take and stop just going to ribbon cutting events. What DC voted for was the first guy without the PR spin and that guy can return to the forefront at any time.

  • Stuart Hershon

So, is Orange the new Gray?

  • NE John

I think Mr. Orange has some good ideas. They just don't go far enough. In addition to scrapping Langston golf course for a PGA styled destination, we should include a water slide park on the National Mall and allow 20 more Walmart stores within city limits. Go Orange!

  • drez

All VO entering does is prove that he's still an idiot.
Not only will be not win, but he won't even draw enough votes off of Gray or Bowser to put Jack into office, so he won't even get whatever either of them promised his hack ass to get him to run in the first place.

  • drez

*so he won't even get whatever Jack promised his hack ass to get him to run in the first place.

  • RealDC

    LOL @bob!

Idiotic comments like yours are exactly why VO is in office and can win the mayor's race. Of course political survival is not the main qualification to be mayor but you want a candidate that has been "battle tested". Local politics are all about survival. Yes, Barry has survived and has yet to loose a race. Barry is undefeated in DC politics, 11-0!! The ultimate DC political survivor. I have never voted for Barry but I respect what he has DONE as a candidate for office each time. He wins!!

Orange has won more races than he has lost. Get your facts straight, Bob before posting here.

"Gray's faults and baggage"..... you sound like an old Fenty supporter that has not gotten over the lost Gray dealt your man. What baggage? LOL. Half of his administration are left over Fenty folks. So stop your whining about Gray, Fenty lost because Fenty became a JERK or the real Fenty showed up. Either way, let it go, Gray is/has been a good mayor.... better than your boy.

As far as Orange becoming mayor and "...it will become a clownfest....". You are entitled to your opinion. But some will say it is already a "clownfest" in the District building.

"Set back home rule".....Ahh, do you mean state hood? Either way, one has nothing to do with the other. DC will not get statehood even if Pope Francis became mayor. It has nothing to do with who is elected to local office. Should Illinois loose statehood because 3 of its last 4 governors are/were in jail? How about Detroit, a mayor is in jail and the city is bankrupt. So, they should not govern themselves any more?

"Pepco's man" on the council, now that is the best point you made about VO. But the whole council is on Pepco's tit. Look at the donor reports. Mendelson is the largest Pepco shareholder on the council and continues to vote on Pepco issues. Have you questioned Mendelson on that?? Again, the Chair of the DC Council owns a bunch of Pepco stock and nobody has a problem with that?? If Barry or VO had a bunch of Pepco stock and was voting on Pepco legislation that appeared before them, YOU would call for a federal investigation.

I am not a VO supporter, but if you going to call VO out for his record, you have to call everybody out for theirs!!

Jack Evans has been on the council for 20+years but his crew running around town tagging every lamp post with a red "Jack" sign like he wants to buy your "old car", have you switch" long distance carriers" or repair your "bad credit". Who is running his campaign? Cool Disco Dan. Take down them damn red signs! Looks like the work of MC Dean.

The "street light" strategy is STUPID! Folks know the name, Jack, but you have to campaign Mr. Ward 2. SMH, just lazy. VO sees opportunity among these weak candidates.

Well, seems like RealDC summed my thoughts in picture perfect fashion. Irrefutable arguments

  • Really?

RealDC said it all! Church! Might I add that I saw Jack in the box peeps campaigning this weekend over there on 14 and V street, N.W. All white, young and clueless. These jokers walked right pass me. Did they ask if I was a voter or registered to vote in DC? Nope! I had a kid with me too so that should have made them feel comfortable.

I walked pass them shaking my head and thinking this right here is why Jack will never win nor get out of Ward 2. I wondered how many missed opportunities did this group have.

  • DCShadyBoots

The city is moving forward very fast. If he runs I am voting for Mayor Gray. All the distractions aside, I am going with what I can trust. I trust what I can see.

I never have and never will trust Jack Evans or Tommy "the drunk" Wells and Muriel is a regurgitation of Adrian Fenty. Been there, done that, not looking back.

Have to agree with drez on the hackster candidacy of VO...

Evans is a nightmare in the making--he is a deluded nut that has been using and abusing his public position from his first day in office nearly 23 years ago.

Interesting that Vinnie G's driver from the 2010 campaign works for Vinnie O now.

  • Michael Frost

Vincent Orange brings a rancid odor to DC politics. First, he is ruled by his penis and abuses the power relegated to expand opportunites to get his penis wet with women, outside his marriage. Second, he cares nothing about the citizens of the District of Columbia and will not pursue an agenda in their best interest. He cares only about his insatiable ego and lacks the altruism required for effective and ethical leadership. Third, he is an emotional madman. He is the epitome of an insane and stone crazy public official. In private, behind the public eye by those that work with him, he operates like a ticking time bomb, with explosive outbursts on a continual basis. He is essentially, unstable in all his ways and does not exhibit the altruistic qualities to lead this remarkable city!

  • Michael Frost

To steer DC out of the red with Vincent Orange, here's a catchy acronysm. Avoid voting to P.E.E. On DC! And avoid electing a leader that is ruled by their Penis, Ego and Emotions! Don't PEE on DC! Don't PEE on DC! Electing Vincent Orange is the same as a dog pissing against a tree.

THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS DUDE THAT DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT!
HE ALSO DOESN'T PASS THE EYE TEST.

I'M TELLING YOU HE IS NOT THE ANSWER!

  • Sharon Brown

Orange is the better candidate for DC Mayor. Bowser lacks experience and is a high roller of A. Fenty; Evans will never help the needy and Wells---well I don't know.

Lewis appeared angry during most of the DCBAR Mayoral debate on Nov 13th and Andy---needs more preparation.

Orange made his position clear--and was concise about how his administration will leave no one behind--provide education, employment and work for all DC residents--rather straight or gay, rich or poor. If any dummy doesn't understand who is the right candidate for the job---should move on!

A fatal, fiery tanker truck crash on Interstate 30 in east Fort Worth caused massive damage to the roadway and bridge beams and could take months to fix, a Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman said. The westbound side of the road was shut down most of Monday after the overnight crash near Street and Riverside Drive an area where I 30 is elevated to pass over Creek. Police say the was by a wrong way driver in a pickup that collided with the tanker. Highway crews are working to hopefully open two lanes for westbound traffic before Monday afternoon rush hour. planned to shift the lanes with temporary striping, an overlay and concrete barriers, and traffic will be asked to move at a mph speed limit. Concrete barriers will be put up to separate the traffic from the unsafe area, where several steel beams were damaged in the extremely hot fire. Those are temporary patches. But returning the road to its original condition will take months."We working on a plan to hopefully get two lanes open by late this afternoon but it going to take some time to fix," Jodi Hodges said. "Those beams are going to have to be replaced. Those beams have to be designed. You can pull them off the shelf."There's some damage to the bridge. We assessing the damage to the beams and the substructure."In 2005, a portion of Texas 183 in Irving was closed for weeks after a fatal tanker truck fire melted away beams at the MacArthur Boulevard underpass.Although such repairs can cost millions of dollars, the transportation department keeps an emergency account for such expenditures, Hodges said.
