Potential Ward 6 Candidate Buys Up Facebook Ads

One of these is not like the others

If you haven't read Washington City Paper's profile of mayoral hopeful Tommy Wells yet, get on it! There's a lot to dig into: Tommy Wells as Irv Nathan antagonist, Tommy Wells as disappointment to benefactor Sharon Ambrose, Tommy Wells as tree obsessive.

Even more interesting than Wells' tree smartphone app, though, is the question about who will replace him. Since Wells' Ward 6 seat is also up in 2014, he's leaving the job whether he wins the mayor's race or not. There are no candidates to replace Wells so far, but Charles Allen, Wells' chief of staff, is widely rumored to want the job.

Allen says he hasn't decided on a run, but political consultant/go-to media quotemeister Chuck Thies, who also pegs Allen as Wells' likely replacement, points out to LL that Allen has been buying Facebook ads promoting his Facebook fan page anyway.

Allen tells LL that he paid for the ad, but not out of political ambition. He's just trying to spread the Ward 6 news. "I created a Facebook page to try and help get the word out," Allen writes in an email. "To help people find it, I put up a low-dollar ad so folks can find the page more easily."

Make of that what you will. LL will point out, though, that no other Wilson Building chiefs of staff have their own Facebook fan pages.

There's another person pretty clearly positioning himself for a Ward 6 run, right under the noses of everyone on Twitter. #southeastlove

  • Vincent Cojocaro

Charles Allen is the best choice. All around good guy and sincere public servant.

  • drez

If Elissa chooses to run she wins.

  • Vincent Cojocaro

Elissa is Fenty in drag. She is a jerk.

  • drez

Lol. Nah. But I bet she wins every precinct. Or very close to it.

  • Blevins

If someone with a quality record like Charles can't defeat a former journalist/ current member of a half baked "think tank", I worry for my ward.

  • DCIvan

Charles or Elissa would be great. Charles would be top notch at serving the ward and Elissa would bring harsh oversight to the agencies that we desperately need and are not getting from the current mayor.

Has Silverman or Allen ever held elected office? ANC, School Board, etc. While not required, the benefits of serving a term or two in these groups is enormous. Being a reporter and chief of staff gives you a great spectator view of the action but serving as an ANC or on the school board is full contact. You have a vote, you have to work with in a group with guidelines to get things done and you have to answer to your constituency. All the time. This is not easy.

We saw Silverman's "maverick" style in the last election. While she can be "tough" on some issues, how effective is that style? Who would work with her? We already have one "nasty, smarty pants" council member in Catania. What good would another one do? The funny about "nasty, smarty pants members", they don't even like each other. For REal!

Hmm- Loose Lips goes to lunch with Charles Allen on Friday, runs story on "non-candidate" Charles Allen Tuesday.

Silverman does not have the temperament to be a Ward councilmember. She may have been "ok" as an at-large councilmember, but you have to deal with "the people" far too often as ward boss and she simply does not have the ability to do that.

  • Really?

Good ole Masa Charlie! Charlie was so nice and accomendating to them black "H' street businesses who was tryin to work with ole Councilmember Wells. He was so helpful. Thank you masa Charlie

Tommy "nobody puts baby" in corner Wells maybe a clueless treehugger who is livable and walkable, But Charles oh Charles is Tommy's pitbull and performs well at this task. But the reality is that Charlie doesn't have the characteristic to deal with diverse demographic with diverse needs.

WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS RACE AND DEBATE!!!
I’M INTERESTED IN THE DICHOTOMY BETWEEN THE TWO.

SLIM LOOKS THE PART BUT CAN HE PLAY THE PART? WARD 6’ERS REMEMBER HEATH SHULER? HE WAS A THE PERFECT FIT BUT COULDN’T PLAY A LICK! THE COMPARISON IM LEANING TOWARDS IS HE ELIJAH WOOD OR MACAULAY CULKIN IN THEIR EARLY DAYS? THIS IS HIS "THE GOOD SON" MOMENT! WILL HIS STAR RISE IN THE WAY OF WOOD OR FALL SIGNIFICANTLY LIKE CULKIN?

WELLS WILL PRETTY MUCH STUMBLE HIS ASS RIGHT INTO HIS POLITICAL GRAVE WITH HIS MAYORAL ASPIRATIONS. SO DUDE WILL NEED TO MAKE A DECISION RIGHT OUT THE GATE AND THAT WILL BE TO CONTINUE IN THE WELLS WAY HE IS ACCUSTOM TO OR MACHETE HIS OWN WAY THRU THE WARD 6 WEEDS AND CREATE HIS OWN PATH IN A WARD THAT SUFFERS FROM POLITICAL ANOREXIA.

IF MS. SILVERMAN CHOOSES TO RUN SHE HAS A USAIN BOLT HEAD START ON WHOEVA DECIDES TO RUN. GOOD MONEY IS ON MS. SILVERMAN BECAUSE WOMEN ARE CHARGING FULL STEAM AHEAD IN POLITICAL WATERS ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY SEE IT CAN BE NAVIGATED WITHIN THEIR PURVIEW. A B-MO LADY WITH SOME GRIT TRUST ME SHE WILL BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH AND ESTABLISH HERSELF EARLY ON THE COUNCIL & WILL ACTUALLY BRING SOME CLOUT TO THE WARD THAT SUFFERS FROM THE MIDDLE CHILD SYNDROME.

THE KEY WILL BE WHO CAN ATTRACT THE BLACK VOTE IN AREAS THAT FEEL AND FELT LEFT OUT FROM ALL THE DEVELOPMENT, WHO RESIDES ON THE BORDERS OF WARD 5 AND WARD 2 AND WHO THEY CAN IDENTIFY WITH. THIS ONE OF THOSE INSTANCES WHERE THE UNDER CARD WILL & SHOULD DRAW MORE ATTENTION THAT THE MAIN ATTRACTION.

IF I CAN OFFER SOME ADVICE TO THE BROTHER DRINK LOCAL AND EMBRACE CRAFTS. STAY AWAY FROM THAT TRUCKED IN FAKE NATTY BOH PISS WATER. FYI-IT IS NOT MADE IN BALTIMORE ANY LONGER.

ONE CITY. SEVERAL BREWERIES. GOOD BEER

    HAHAHAHAHA.

Chuck don't know how to count to 7, just like Tommy never did. Another do nothing CM who cannot get anything done! Classic!

  • drez

    Not bad, noodlez.

  • Calvin H. Gurley

Please remember, Tommy Wells can run for Mayor in 2014 and also run for his seat in the Ward 6 Council race.

The Board of Election and Ethics passed a ruling that Vincent Orange could run for the Special Chairman race and also run in his re-election race for the At-Large Seat.

If Silverman has any political mind she would run in Ward 6 and win hands down. If she runs at large she will lose again and her Council dream will be done. So WAKE UP Elissa! It's Ward 6 or go home!
