Another Person Connected to Jeff Thompson Charged With Straw Donations

Jeffrey Thompson

Just hours after one person connected to alleged straw donation scheme organizer Jeffrey Thompson pleaded guilty, another one has been charged. This time, it's Pennsylvania resident Stanley L. Straughter, a contractor for Thompson's former accounting firm.

In 2010, Straughter allegedly made illegal donations to two campaigns, one for the Senate and one for the House of Representatives. The donations added up to $2,000 and $25,000 in illegal donations, according to court records. Straughter has been charged with making an unlawful corporate contribution.

The campaigns that received Straughter's donations aren't named in court documents, but Straughter and his wife only made federal donations to the campaigns of D.C.'s Democratic Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and the late former Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter in 2010. Straughter gave $2,300 to Norton and $2,000 to Specter, while his wife gave $2,300 to Norton.

Straughter and his wife also made donations to District politicians. Between 2007 and 2011, the two made $29,700 in donations to the campaigns of mayors Adrian FentyVince Gray, and Anthony Williams. The Straughters also gave to Linda CroppVincent Orange, Kwame Brown, Muriel Bowser, Michael Brown, Delano Hunter, and Kelvin Robinson, according to the Office of Campaign Finance.

Straughter has been charged in a criminal information, which suggests he'll plead guilty to the charge. When LL reached Straughter's attorney, he said he was too busy to comment on the charge.

please explain why any of this needed to be done since the entire city wanted fenty out of office.

Why refer to Arlen Specter as a Democrat since he switched to the Republican party in 1965 and served in the Senate as a Republican from 1980 until he switched back to a Democrat in 2009 because he wasn't conservative enough for the GOP

  • Will Sommer

He ran in 2010 as a Democrat.

If Her Highness Eleanor was implicated that would be an added bonus.

  • DCShadyBoots

@sticktoyourguns, your point? Nearly every politician in DC, past and present, including Adrian Fenty and Anthony Williams, accepted political donations from Thompson.

Jimbo, how about you add Jack Evans, David Catania and Jim Graham to the way you are feeling about Eleanor?
