Police Report: McDuffie Staffer Tried to Repay Bar Bill Without Being Noticed

Here's a new wrinkle in the story of one-time Kenyan McDuffie staffer Tim Clark, fired last week after allegedly paying bar tabs with constituent service funds. According to McDuffie committee analyst Adrian Jordan, who apparently discovered the missing money, Clark tried to pay back the bar bills without anyone noticing.

In an interview Friday with the Post, Clark said he offered to pay back the $225.07 before the missing money was discovered. But that's not the story told in Jordan's statement to the police, available in full below.

Jordan found an unusual three charges worth $92.27 on April 29, with an additional $132.80 in charges on May 29. In that second review, Jordan also discovered a $300 check that he believed Clark donated without telling anyone, in attempt to make up for the $225.07—plus $74.93!

In an email sent Friday to members of a Ward 5 listserv, Clark apologized for his use of the debit card and "the shame it has brought upon the Ward and the CM's office."

Kinda hard to tell from the pretty thin reporting in the article, but is there a chance that the staffer just pulled out the wrong card by mistake? I did that once with a corporate card (they were both green-colored cards)and didn't notice until the restaurant gave me the card back with the sales receipt. Luckily, the restaurant was able to reverse the charge and put it on my personal card when I caught the error, but it would be a shame if this guy got fired over a simple error anybody could make.

While I think that Tim should certainly face whatever is coming his way, I do think OCF recommending McDuffie reporting this to MPD and McDuffie subsequently taking that recommendation a bit extreme. The level of crap that OCF fails to follow through on and all the other illegal nonsense that goes on in this city and this gets referred to MPD? Sigh. Again, what he did was wrong, but the police angle seems, I don't know, overkill.

    OKAY HE FUCKED UP!

HAVE THE JOKER PAY THE MONEY BACK AND LET HIM GO.
CALLING THE PO-PO'S IS A BIT OVER THE TOP!

I think if it was done once anyone could see it as an honest mistake. Tim said that the first time was unintentional but the second time he knew what he was doing. Seems
Like a really stupid thing to do and I not sure why people would do something like that- lose your job and a host of other problems to pay a bar tab? Drink at home if you cannot afford to pay at a bar with your own money.

The debit charges are a month apart ($99.27 on April 29 & $132.80 on May 29). No chance this was a slipup. Clearly intentional. He did own up to it and made an attempt to pay it back, BUT he should have did that within a day or two. You don't go over a month.

    This is small potatoes.
When's Vincent Gray gonna pay back the $653,000 he illegally took from Jeff Thompson.
Lord knows Thompson could use the money about now. If only to help pay off the $17,000,000 the city is during him for.

I honestly think he should be given a chance to repay and we can call it even. Less than $500 and he's admitted the wrong doing and been fired.

This is a waste of space on someone who is clearly dishonest at the core. Oh well, bird of a feather......
