Tonight: D.C. Council At-Large Debate at the Black Cat

D.C. Council Debate at Black Cat April 15
The special election for an at-large D.C. Council seat is barely a week away. Tonight, join Washington City Paper and your would-be leaders from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the main stage at the Black Cat (1811 14th St. NW) for a debate.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The moderators will be LL Alan Suderman, NBC4's Tom Sherwood, and Washington Informer staff writer James Wright.
Candidates who will appear, in the order that you'll see them on your ballots next week:

  • Matt Frumin
  • Perry Redd
  • Elissa Silverman
  • Patrick Mara
  • Paul Zukerberg

Incumbent D.C. Councilmember Anita Bonds won't attend, due to what staff says is a prior commitment. (Examiner columnist Jonetta Rose Barras, who had been scheduled to participate as well, has withdrawn in order to prevent any concerns about fairness given her endorsement of Mara and her criticism of Bonds.) Thanks to NBC4 contributor Chuck Thies for help organizing. City Paper will use the debate to inform our endorsement in the race, which will appear in this week's paper.

Send your questions for the candidates to lldebate@washingtoncitypaper.com or tweet them using the hashtag #LLDebate. We'll ask as many as we can. And don't forget to vote!

Of course Anita "Vote for Me, I'm Black" Bonds won't be there, the debate isn't in Wards 5, 7 or 8.

Just write the Silverman endorsement now. Why bother with the charade?

I'm not voting for any of these clowns. In a city of 600,000, there has to be some worth voting for?

ANITA BONDS IS A FAT HIPPO. LIND CROPP II. IF PEOPLE ELECT HER BACK INTO OFFICE THEY DESERVE HER.

I DREAM OF THE DAY WHEN DC WILL HAVE REAL LEADERS.

Anita Bonds committment is running from tough questions like, "Why are you trying to get a job on the Council by playing the race card." and "Will you continue to work for Fort Myer Construction, with those conflicts of interest, if elected."

  8. #8

Bonds can't come because she's too busy counting money from Wilmot's shindig last week -- the place to be for old school pay to play lobbyists and government moochers. Wilmot = Thompson = Bereano = Gray = Bonds

Hey LL. Ask Mara why he contributed $999 to Romney. Something fishy there. He ducked the question on Kojo.

  10. #10

The rest of the DC Councilmembers who ALL have outside jobs (except Mr. Barry) need to be made to quit and be FULL-TIME councilmembers. Any outside employment is almost always a conflict of interest, especially with the current bunch.

  11. #11

I thought all of them, including Bonds, had said they would be full-time Councilmembers?

  12. #12

    What, no live blogging?

  13. #13

Key word- "doors open at 7". Got there at 7:30 still no sign of starting so left. Some heavy drinkers.

  14. #14

I dream of the day when DC has wildebeests instead of hippos

  15. #15

CityPaper has a forum, hypes it up, and then doesn't report on it???

  16. #16

So nothing about the fact Mara, Frumin,et al reneged on their promises to disclose tax returns? Or that Silverman kept her promise?
