Michael Brown Sued Again Over Alleged Missed Rent

D.C. Council candidate and former Councilmember Michael Brown was sued last month by the owners of the Rittenhouse Apartments on 16th Street NW for allegedly not paying rent, court record show. It's the third time the apartment complex has sued Brown.

Rittenhouse withdrew the case Wednesday, but the records don't say why. Brown says he paid his rent on time and was unaware he'd been sued. A process server says he tried unsuccessfully to serve Brown with a summons twice (including once at 6:54 a.m.!), before mailing the required paperwork to Brown. A representative of the law firm that sued on behalf of Rittenhouse declined comment.

Brown's personal financial problems contributed to his ouster as a councilmember during last November's general election. As the Post first reported last year, the Rittenhouse Apartments have sued Brown twice before for unpaid rent, once in 2011 and again in 2012. Last year, he told the Post that the first time he was sued in 2011 was a "mistake" and the 2012 lawsuit was a result of Brown being "a couple days late" on rent and Rittenhouse being overly zealous to sue. In this most recent case, Rittenhouse said Brown failed to pay February's rent of $2,220 plus a $35 late fee.

    Hi -

Michael Brown is a bum who needs to take his dog and pony show and ride off into the sunset.

He's NOT going back into the Wilson Building, except maybe as a visitor.
